Wait, wait, wait. Villamin had better hands than Hodgins? Or even had good hands at all? Uh-uh; no way. That guy had the stoniest hands I can remember wearing a Beaver uniform. Perhaps only surpassed by Obum Gwacham before he was moved to DE. Villamin was a physical freak who was all raw talent, and remained so throughout his career. Hodgins is a much more polished receiver. The one knock on Hodgins is that he seemed to disappear after that incredible Colorado game. Once DC's saw the threat he could be and gameplanned for him, he got shut down and our offense never really seemed to recover the rest of the season... That is what happened to Villamin in 2015. The windows got tighter and tighter and the balls got harder to catch in 2015. Villamin had great hands. He looked under-motivated under GAG. Villamin loafed and started to alligator arm too many passes thrown his way. I really would like to know how things would have played out, if someone competent had taken over for Riley.

Am I the only one who has no idea what point the comparison of 2015 to 2018 rosters is trying to make anymore? How did this pointless argument even start?

Arguing over which 2-10 team was better. I prefer to say "discussing" lol I'm not sure why there is a discussion... players no matter the talent were coached by GAG and staff in 2015. Argument/discussion over🍻

The ultimate point I originally was making before it drifted off into a battle of 2015 vs 2018 is Smith could basically do no better than CGA during his 3 years and very few are going to drag his ass like they do CGA. In fact, they will probably still blame CGA. Which is obvious of course, he's a Beav, I even said I'll be guilty of it. I knew posting it I'd have to deal with some hyperbolic nonsense. From an outsiders perspective, perception differs.
Regardless, there's more hope baked in to hiring a Beaver legend like Smith than, well, anyone. More pressure too, I'm sure Smith feels it, and I'm still confident he'll get it turned around. Just an average defense translates into 2 or 3 more wins with this team.

If we only win five games in the next two seasons, our best players transfer out rather than in, coaching staff assignments and personnel are shuffled like playing cards and Cal Poly comes within a missed field goal of beating us next September, I will drag 9er, Bray, Ken Simonton, Terry Baker, Dee Andros, William Jasper Kerr, and any other Beaver just like I did AnderJorts.
This year was way more fun than last year which is saying a lot because this year sucked. Improvements were made. I expect them to continue.

From an outsider ... There was a significant hope for good things when Gary Anderson was hired. And many of those hopes seemed well-founded based upon the type of coach many perceived Anderson to be at the time of his hiring. But Anderson turned out to be a baffling combination of bizarre quotes and personnel moves for OSU. Even his departure was just plain weird. Now Coach Jonathan Smith arrives. OSU legend on the field. Experienced assistant coach at multiple positions and schools. Walks in with confidence having worked with Chris Petersen. Brings the EMOTION of Beaver Nation supporting the AD's choice of new Head Coach. Then he presents himself well before the press. And he builds a better-than-expected staff, including a proven o-line coach and several former OSU players. The only thing I would expect when comparing Anderson and Smith at this time ... OSU fans are going to LIKE Smith a lot more ... and therefore they will give him time to build the program. "time to build the program" certainly won't be absent of criticism for some specifics. But I think even the glimmer of improvement in year two (especially in the win column) will buy CJS the support he needs to keep building.

if you aren't angry enough at losing to Organ to at least think some irrational shlt out loud, then it means your priorities are wrong.

if you aren't angry enough at losing to Organ to at least think some irrational shlt out loud, then it means your priorities are wrong. That's exactly what prompted the original post. It wasn't just the players, the coaching was brutal and pathetic, and particularly Smith's playcalling. If it weren't Smith, this board would have been lit up like Xmas tree.
But no doubt there are lots of positives to take from this season as far as the offense goes heading in to the offseason. This is the very point where Anderson had the fans excited at season end 2016 after winning two straight conference teams and beating Oregon, then just royally screwed the pooch. I'm not worried one bit Smith won't keep improving the offense. Likewise, it shouldn't be hard to improve on what was arguably the worst defense I've ever seen as a Beaver fan.

I was very excited knowing we had an experienced QB would could win us conference games coming back.
GA had a different idea. Mine worked out great for Fresneck, GA's worked out great for OSU opponents.

GA’s pleased more people, GA is a pleaser.

Hell, JS actually improved this team's record from last season. CGA went minus 3 in year one in the win column. I don't recall CGA getting his "ass dragged" terribly in year 1 for doing a much s%#ttier job than CJS has done. I'd call any goodwill than Smith is receiving more "first year coach" goodwill, than "He's one of us" goodwill. We've got Beavernut dragging Smith's ass one year after he said CGA should get 6 years to build the program.
