Interesting read on the Pac-12

CanoCrappo warning. However I actually agree with his take here. The same could be said for basketball, the other money-maker, as well as football.

The lack of "big" in the players... What? Do big players cost more?  Or is it that the South has all the recruiting hotbeds closer to them and the pick of the big players who can move quickly.


And the SEC hillbillys arent going to let themselves lose an arms race to keep getting most of the big boys.  

I think the Weasel was taking a dig at west coast moms. We need the money to send the moms to Southern cooking classes to beef up our boys.

It was a good read. Really a good look at the hubris of the conference that even while pulling in the smallest amount, on a per school basis, they can spend by far the most.
I believe that this is the holier-than-thou attitude of the conference that we're better than all the other conferences. The things that the Pac12 does scream elitism (extra conf. game; owning our own network; must have the conf. offices in the highest rent area on the West Coast; pointing to all the non-revenue sport championships). Those things are all great but for every year we don't get with the times, the Pac12 falls further behind the rest of the conferences in the revenue sports that matter.

What is more egregious, is OSU, WSU, Colorado, Utah, ASU and Arizona are, generally speaking, not well resourced schools at the D-1 level relative to its peers in the conference and across the nation. 

Half your schools have pretty significant financial constraints relative to USC, Cal (interesting case...), UCLA, Oregon, UW, Stanford and then of course across the national scene. Half these Presidents are active and complacent in harming their already inequitable position. 

I personally think the fan base needs to rise up and start expressing our concern and discontent for how the resources are being used.

For Alumni and Fans, this only makes it harder on those of us supporting these schools. I'm thinking that the Presidents of these schools need to hear from us. It is simply bad management of resources that need to be redirected back to the players and the fans experience.

Well, correctly or not, I used that artical and discussion in the email sent to discuss my football season tix renewal. I've been an avid opponent of fans here saying they are dropping tix because of on-the-field performance. but, ultimately it is their $.

However, I'm thinking that our administration is sending a clear message with the Pac12 circumstances that they are not overly concerned with $ and fiscal responsibility. Add to that I can get as many seats to home and away games any time I want for far less than what multiple season tix will cost me.

I kept track of all my away tix this year, only tOSU were expensive because I broke my protocol and bought them from OSU... could have had better seats from multiple sites on game day for half the price! I also kept track of a couple sites (included fees) for home tix. I could have gotten equal or better seats for far cheaper than what I paid for just the ticket price.

In fact... I can keep my "giving" the same... directly to other areas... and all my away and home seats equaled less than just my home seats! Just home games would have totaled $186.00/seat for the season. Some away games were as low as $10/seat. Without looking I believe season tix were $390/seat?

With these two facts President Ray needs to rethink his "CEO" stance with regard to the Pac12. I'll not withhold my $ because of team performance, but I certainly will over Administrative. I would hope EVERY season ticket holder would write and present their thoughts on this. I'm only concerned with OSU, but fans of every other school/athletic program (which ultimately effect academia) should also be outraged and demand change.
