I posted this over on the BSU discussion, but I thought it deserved its own thread
Average attendance by hour of start time, excluding weekday games or Civil Wars (Since Pac-12 Network launch):
11:00 am - 33,582
12:00 pm - 41,063
1:00 pm - 35,980
2:00 pm - 38,052
3:00 pm - 40,873
5:00 pm - 36,755
6:00 pm - 37,958
7:00 pm - 40,591
The noon stats get a huge boost from the Boise State game in 2016 thanks to BSU fans, who I imagine would've come regardless of game time.
All told, since the start of the Pac-12 Network (7 seasons) we have had 19 games with start times before 4:00 pm and 25 games with start times after 4:00 pm. In the four seasons prior (2008-11), we had 18 games that started before 4pm and 6 games after.
Since start of Pac-12 Network:
Average attendance for Saturday, non-Civil War kickoffs before 4pm: 37,680 (16 games)
Average attendance for Saturday, non-Civil War kickoffs after 4pm: 39,429 (20 games)

If you look at Pac-12 games only (again, since 2012 on Saturdays, excluding Civil War):
Games before 5pm: 36,742 Games 5pm or later: 40,189
Since 2015, the worst time to start a game: 1:00. Average attendance (Pac-12 only): 32,823 Since 2015, the best time to start a game: 5:00. Average attendance (Pac-12 only): 37,821
We've had seven Saturday Pac-12 non-CW games starting 3:30 or earlier and seven such games starting 5:00 or later since 2015. Average attendance when kickoff is in the afternoon: 34,260 Average attendance when kickoff is in the evening: 35,803 And you guys will love this: average attendance at Pac-12 Weekday night games Post Riley: 35,866
Night games aren't killing attendance. I don't know how anyone can say it's a major factor in attendance. People don't come to the afternoon games.

I’d like to see who the opponents were for the 1:00 games verses late games. I’d bet that would provide a clue as to the difference.

It is also a trend regarding the cost of attending. Jacking up ticket prices & concessions when the team is bad is not doing us any favors. We get virtually no single game buyers when the face value is $100 for a civil war game that is meaningless.
They have got to reevaluate what they're charging at least until the team gets better. They are pricing out the average family who is not going to pay $500+ to attend a single game if they don't have season tickets in the family section or in valley view.

As I posted earlier... somewhere... I kept track on a couple secondary markets, and with "fees" I could have gotten (6) seats in same or better locations for less than half the season ticket total (in fact the savings would have paid for my tix to three away games I attended). And every game was available electronically as you walked up to Reser. With the clownzano article on the Pac12 CEOs and Prez Ray being partially responsible my "giving" can be done in other ways and still save a ton of money attending every game I want home and away. I encourage every season ticket holder hear to email President Ray directly (cc'd Mr Barnes) and mention that it is obvious with the lavish spending by the conference (with the approval of the CEOs) that OSU does not need my season ticket $. And, when the Pac12 Presidents clean up the conference financial priorities, and image regarding administrative interference in the football operations/officiating I'll gladly consider renewing.

I did a fairly similar comparison and discovered that I could have bought single game club seats on the secondary market for each game for the same price that I paid for my regular season tickets. That is a pricing problem.

baseba1111 is correct about the attendance by year: 2008 - 44,931 2009 - 42,342 (-2,589) 2010 - 45,509 (+3,167) 2011 - 42,420 (-3,089) 2012 - 43,424 (+1,004) 2013 - 42,964 (-460) 2014 - 41,809 (-1,155) 2015 - 36,079 (-5,730) 2016 - 37,622 (+1,543) 2017 - 34,754 (-2,868) 2018 - 35,207 (+453) I will say that we had more 7pm starts in 2014 (4) than in any other season, which could've contributed to the sharp decline in ticket sales in 2015. However, since then it seems that start times are not a factor to the people that kept season tickets from that point on.

That’s what popped out to me. All games with the highest attendance were during the Riley era. Hopefully Smith can turn around the team and the attendance goes up as well.

For what it's worth, my group of 6 stopped buying football season after the 14 season solely based on the previous 3 years game times. We traveled and tailgated in our 40 ft. motorhome. We gave door to door service so that everyone (except me, the DD) could enjoy a cocktail or glass of wine or 3. 7pm starts meant dropping off the last person at about 3am.. Before you ask, in Roseburg. We waited and hour after the game because the MH doesn't do stop and go well.
Before I get thrown under the bandwagon my group traveled LSU 4, Penn St. 12 ,Wisky 9, Vegas 7, and SDST 8. We still attend one or more games a year. Personally my money is in 4 Baseball season tickets and a trip to Omaha this past June. And the group has 4 season tickets to Womens BB. I'll pat myself on the back here, I went to the Arkansas PB game. I believe attendance has dropped for 3 reasons.
My order would be 1. Game times (I also believe it will adversely affect our fan base down the road. Parents aren't as likely to bring 3-7 yr. olds because of the late hour.)
2. ticket prices added to the other costs involved for families. I'm turning 66 so I only have to buy for me. The Cal game I paid 105 for New Side Sec. 119 I think. My (Army Major Son), sorry but I brag every chance paid less than that for 3 tickets 1 section closer to the 50.
3. Team performance I started at OSU Fall of 71. Avery Lodge. Wasn't much of a student BUT Great at all other activities, attending sporting events, MU dances, basement music, Marys Peak trips. RFing. I was at or listened to 90 plus % of all games from 71 to now. Hunting in Eastern Oregon meant find a tall peak that got radio reception. Most of my friends don't know that I actually have clothes that don't have a BEAVER logo. 28 years didn't stop me from listening to "HOLY JUMPEN DOWN MARTHA".
7pm game times stopped me from attending every week. OK I'm done.
