Just reading between the lines... it seems to me that Tristan and Coach Smith have a lot in common...
I'm stoked that we are rebuilding depth at the QB position. I can't remember the last season we had one QB start every game and play every meaningful snap. Maybe Canfield?
Anyway... I'm excited for Tristan and I'm giving him the odds of winning the Starting spot. I'm not sure it will be game #1 but my bet is he is the starter as we enter Pac 12 play. Just a hunch... not claiming any insider or special info here.

The kid seems to be a "student of the game and a coach on the field" If his talent is what it appears, we are in good hands at the QB position! imho JL will need his "A" game to keep TG on the bench. And that's a good thing as well!!

“I was playing against a Pac-12 defense every day...”
I get what he's saying, but I think that quote may be up for some debate.

Thanks for the update... you are certainly correct. Mannion is also going to be a Unrestricted Free Agent in 2019... looking forward to see if he can land a new gig and work to be a starter in the League. Fingers crossed.

It wouldn’t surprise me to see JL start against Ok St just so you don’t throw a kid to the wolves in his first D1 action. Hate to crush his confidence from the beginning.

If TG is a D1 quarterback,(and I hope he will be) his confidence had better not be that fragile. It appears that he embraces the competition as he should.

As good as Luton could be last year he could be equally stinky. Which, considering it was essentially his first year as a starter in a real offense, to be expected. If he gets all the kinks ironed out, he could be really good.
With that said, if Gebbia beats him out, I think that says a lot about the potential for this kid. BTW, thanks, for the annunciation, I've been saying it in my head wrong for a year.
I just hope Smith picks one and rides that pony. Will not serve either well, or the program, if we come out of fall camp with "both guys are going to get playing time"

I’m still trying to figure out the posts saying Luton blew leads or played “stinky”. He hit 62 percent of his passes and threw only 4 interceptions on the season. He got sacked a bunch, but I’m putting that on the pass protection. When I think of poor QB play I think of low completion percentages, interceptions and poor decision making, and I can’t say he had much issue with any of those, especially for basically being inexperienced at this level in the first year of this offense.
Another year of experience in this offense for the linemen, the receivers, AND, QB will make quite a difference. I’ve read in the past the easiest position on the offense for a talented player to shine their first year is running back, and we got that this year from a couple of them, I expect the rest to start falling more into place this season.

I'm not a huge Luton fan, but when healthy, he did very well last year and was not our problem. I hope Gebbia will be the starter this next year, but we can do worse than Luton (Blount...). Defense is where I am wanting to see massive strides, which I think we will because we were young last year.
