So a few hours prior to the game cooper decides he isn't playing. Couldn't have made that decision a week ago? I have no use for players walking out on their teammates.

I’ve been supportive of players who have opted out, but this one bugs me. He should repay whatever expenses were incurred on his behalf by the university since he stepped on the bus to the airport. He probably should be left to his own devices on how to get out of El Paso.

Agreed - really disappointed having met his mother last year at the Eugene airport - I asked her about "that coach never to be named again", how the players liked him, and the staff. She said they all really liked the coach. I wonder if this has anything to do with the coaching changes, or just advice he is getting from his agent? (if he has one) More evidence that there needs to be portal and post season play rule changes. Can't force a player to give 100% on the field in a bowl game, but you could sure as hell make it mandatory to be there, and be ready to play. If Cooper truly loved the game, and the university that has given him an education and a platform to play on, he would play - period.
Many players that could have declared early for the NFL have decided to come back for one more year, to help their team win, and maybe be in the conversation for the playoffs. Can't a player get an insurance policy if they play in a bowl game, and are projected to go in the first six or seven rounds in the NFL draft?

The whole insurance deal isn't as easy, straight forward and cheap as it used to be apparently. Back in the day kids would insure their senior year if they wanted to play, apparently that has reached into the 6 figure amount nowadays according to one article I read. Here's an article which talks a bit about why kids are opting out of bowl games now rather than getting insurance, they don't say how much the insurance cost though. www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/jaylon-smiths-insurance-payout-could-lead-to-more-players-skipping-bowl-games/

x.com/_yungcoop05/status/1740435739756609587?s=20Are we mad a Gould and Fuaga? Seems like he maybe got some feedback on his draft stock and decided to focus on preparing for the NFL like some of his teammates. Was it kind of last minute? Yes. Do I like it? Of course not. I’d like for all of these guy to play. However, this is just kind of the way it goes. I think we should all still appreciate the the kid for choosing Oregon State and for the work he’s put in here. His post is classy enough in my opinion. Everyone makes decisions at a different pace. Go Beavs!

If a kid is going to quit the team and abandon his teammates before a bowl game, he should at least do so immediately after the regular season. Other kids could have moved up the depth chart and practice would have been handled differently.
The team we put on the field today was just a shell of what we had during the season, as was the coaching staff. Personally, I think it's disgraceful that all these kids from so many schools are doing this. The only way to change it is to withhold at least half of the NIL money until the final game of the season has been played, and then only distribute it to those who are still on the team. (Redshirted and legitimately injured players are still on the team.)

Some of you guys need to adjust to reality or you are always going to be mad. This is the sport now. Guys can move, leave and focus on their future. Want it to change make the universities employ them or compensate them as contractors.

Is the vendor required to pay 100% of the money to the kid on the day the contract becomes effective? Can the vendor not stipulate certain things and pay the money over the 12 months that the contact is in effect for, as happens with a regular job? None of that would make sense. Since neither the NCAA nor the school is a party to the agreement, it would seem logical that the terms are agreed to by the athlete and the company he signs with. Uncle Phil no doubt pays a pretty penny to all the Duck football players. He's not going to pay some kid $100,000 for the full year on September 1, watch the kid quit the team on September 2, get arrested for rape on September 3, and just shrug his shoulders on September 4 and mutter, "Win some, lose some."

There is nothing preventing a booster from getting a player to sign a contract to receive NIL money. It can and does happen. It's just completely unregulated and unreported so nobody knows very well what's in them.
