As a USC basketball player once said "We were trash and now we've come full circle". JS made the same quote when he was a player except he used 360 degrees at the end.

C’mon man. This game was never going to be about our identity or much else. Way too many key players not playing. ND has a solid defense and this was a bad matchup for a team missing 3 key lineman, 2 qbs, our best running back, tight end. and key receiver. Oh yeah, and a coaching staff in transition. The result in hindsite was pretty predictable. This is what bowl games have become. Not very representative of the team you watched during the season. I enjoyed our team this year. So close to breaking through. I didn’t feel very invested in the bowl game because of the MIA players and pared down coaching staff. A disappointing scrimmage for me but not much more.

I get you man. Sometimes this sub is immune to logic. Which of these is "logic" and not an opinion (or just plain wrong): "We will suck for years to come." "We can't compete." "We will be lucky to beat Boise State." "All our best players left." "Maybe we beat NDSU? Maybe?" That's logic? Sounds more like giving up and focusing only on the negative to me. I try very hard to be immune to focusing only on the negative.

Many of you will say I am not a true fan. I have been a fan for 50 years. Had season tix. Have been through the many bad years. This is our reality. We cant compete. We will be lucky to beat Boise State. We win 9 or 10 games? Welcome to the who cares bowl. We just cant afford to compete. We cant keep the best coach we had in decades. All our best players left. Even our kicker chose the ucks. Who are we kidding? Maybe we beat NDSU? Maybe? Call me a grinch but I am PISSED. Fair-weather Beaver ^

I personally think we will stabilize next year. We may lose a handful of games, but we will still be a winning program. The team has been dragged through the mud this past year. It takes insane resilience to persevere all year long when it seems everyone is against you on and off the field. I applaud all the guys who came to play today. Yes, they got their butts handed to them, but each player showed-up when they could have “opted-out” or transferred.
I believe Bray will keep this program afloat. It takes a lot out of a program when they lose a coach. Bowl games of this era don’t showcase the best teams. Don’t use this game as a barometer of things to come. Yes, we are in transition, but I don’t believe all is lost.

I think the OP was talking more about our current state, and future.....not the bowl game. I'm not saying I agree, or disagree.

Geez Beav4life how old are you? This is the worst you've seen? Some of us made it through 28 straight years of losing football. Those of us that survived that know what it means to see bad football. Somehow, someway we survived. After those 28 years we may have been the best team in the country after the Fiesta bowl win. Either you need to get rid of your moniker, bury yourself, or get to work and support the Beavs.

While the current structure of CFB may only exist for another 2-5 years, I don't see any change in our status until that occurs. Sometimes we suck, most times we don't.
We have only cracked the top 20 because of exceptional coaching/recruiting. When we lose that we drop out. Too early to tell if we are dropping or holding steady. Every college program, save the top 5-6 in the Big10 and SEC, are in the same boat. USC and the Ducks (with Nike support) can bob up and down in the top 20 under the current structure. We can do the same in the top 40, occasionally getting in the top 20 with good coaching.*
*There is a significant overlap between P5 and G5 schools in the year-end power-ratings. I attribute this to coaching since the budgets of the two are so different.

Like someone already said above "it is what it is". Even if that light at the end of the tunnel was a train, it already hit us and we're ready to continue on. What our players need now is Hope, and we need to Inspire them. My daughter flunked the math class recently, but I didn't tell her if she was stupid. She went on to get an A next time she took it. We have the makings of a great coaching staff coming up. We need to support them when they need it most and the athletes. I don't think that's too much for a beaver fan.

I was very encouraged by the play of the young linebackers. I also think a couple of DBs showed they can play though there was an obvious lack of that chemistry that comes with being in actual game situations. I also thought the O-line showed some promise. They obviously need some weight room time, and I think KyleD will be a very good coach. Notre Dame was sending everybody so the inexperience for the Beavers was obvious.
Next season will be interesting. DM at RB. Two transfersat QB with potential. Terry will be fine at TE but need another, true, receiver TE to develop. I would sure like to see some tall WRs next season. Bolden was outstanding and tough as nails, but short. The OL will be decent with the young guys and transfers. Worried about the DL, but hopefully the portal guys can step up.
Finally, a shout out to James Rawls. I first met him when he was a tiny baby. James has represented his great family with total class.
