And Silas Bolden to the portal……bag of $$$ coming his way. Well, he was our best offensive weapon.....not surprised Best offensive weapon? Martinez is a much better weapon. That being said, Silas was one of the guys that I had heard was looking at the portal. Hoping that’s it, but there’s a lot of rumors about one of our starting lineman.

The new rules are segregating the schools by the amount of money they can spend. Even the pros have salary caps! There is no semblance of equality of the scheduling that is allowed in many conferences. The total NIL money being paid by each team should have a cap limit, low enough that that most Div I teams could reach that level. All Conference schedules should have similar # of conference games & non-conference games. This year has shown what a farce the whole system has become. Bowl games look like spring practice scrimmages with so many starters not playing. The PAC has been playing 11 game seasons, 8 in conference, 3 out-of- conference plus a bye week. The season is half at home and half on the road. Some leagues play 7 or 6 conference games and all the non- conference games are home games. The national polls ignore strength of schedule to a large degree. FSU complained about not being in the final four... yet the best team they played was Louisville. The ACC was not very strong this year. The NIKE semi-pro team in Eugene has HUGE advantage over most teams. Every player thinks they will get a shoe contract from NIKE.... and they essentially do. A BIG reason that College Football is so popular is that the team are NOT Professionals.... just student athletes getting an athletic scholarship to enable them to play football while they attend college. Many of the players would never play in the pros. The ones that go on to the pros become local heroes. The NCAA put scholarship limitations to keep a level playing field between all schools. The NIL payments, Transfer Portal, and opting out of Bowl Games is disgusting to most fans. Slight correction: "the PROFESSIONAL NIKE team in Eugene". I agree.... Ivy League is an example of student-athlete football. Linfield plays college football with student athletes. A number of leagues are not NFL minor league conferences. If you truly want Oregon State to have peers that are not driven by big money the school has options.

You can argue Martinez and Bolden were equal or one was a little better than other......saying Martinez is much better is ridiculous. Bolden was often biggest player on the field, even though he was the smallest.....Bolden, a WR, in a run first O was never gonna get the touches compared to Martinez

Bolden had around 930. I’ll take Martinez all day.

Hmmmm... 1st Team All Pac12 RB (twice)... the other 2nd team as a return guy, not even HM as a WR.
So one is in top 2 of all RBs according to the coaches. One not in the top 10?
DM to portal or SB? Wonder who 99.9% would rather have happen?

Was Bolden by far our best receiving option? Was he not electric with the ball in his hands? Did he not make great catches when given his limited opps? Martinez is a stud, but to say he's way better than Bolden as a football player, is just false.

That would be Velling, who had 3 more TD catches than Bolden. We just didn’t throw it to Velling enough

Electric... equals best? Nope. If that was the case another "electric" guy was probably Irish... but, again not in the top 10 "best".
Opinions may vary... and are just that. Stats and honors from those in the know don't. Velling & Gould both thought of more highly and actually bigger losses.
But, most importantly our roster & additions are able to fill WR spots. Not so much RB or TE.

I am saying characterizing the current collegiate landscape for D1 as driven by money and not “old school” college football rivalries and tradition is accurate. AND that fact does not prevent OSU from choosing to align with a conference that is not driven by dollars in sports.

Nike now pays recruits just to come visit Eugene. That's right. Once there, they can get an appraisal and hopefully, a true market value offer. Phil Knight is 86 y/o and desperate. Please post factual info that substantiated. Nike does NOT pay recruits to visit. I totally understand the Nike hate, but that organization is one of the most sophisticated in the world in terms of legalities. Nike would never jeopardize their relationship with any school (since they have them with many) by blatantly breaking such a simple rule and depending on the discretion of an 18 y/o to keep it on the low down. Getting an "appraisal/market value" offer... isn't paying. Nor a promise to pay. But, please post any verification of your claims. "Nike" is sort of a blanket statement that can mean a lot of things. First and foremost, it means Knight. It also can include many of the C suite individuals who are down for the cause. In the past, it has certainly meant the brain trust of the organization when it comes to marketing and promotion. The idea of the uni's and billboards etc was not hatched by some AD intern. The question for you is...what is the controlling body that would prohibit any of these entities described above from paying players to either come to Oregon or play for Oregon? What are the guardrails here? If you don't think the apparatus of Nike isn't all in for Oregon football now you're naive.

What if somebody stepped on top of Nike? What's stopping the wealth fund from Saudi Arabia from partnering with any school they want, say USC or UCLA and hijacking CFB? Pay Kirby Smart $100M/year and put together a college all star team thru the portal and new 5 star recruits. Pay them each $5M/year and create, essentially the Harlem Globetrotters while making the rest of CFB the Washington Generals. It's a hypothetical, but if somebody wanted to forever change CFB right now, they could. Look what the LIV did to the PGA. Is this the level of craziness that needs to happen before some common sense is brought in? CFB is unstable and vulnerable right now, the defense shields are down.
