I think I will be watching on tv, if that were the case. Not too interested in being 60 and packed in a stadium with many people that will definitely be infected. Common sense

Either way it's insane to say there won't be gatherings until a vaccine is found - as one may never be found.

Per the Governor a few minutes ago there WILL Not be any large gatherings (concerts, football games, etc...) through at least September. Good bye three home games. As somebody actively working for for the man, and an actual and active part of the ECC and response team... don't put too much weight on these words today. This can, and almost certainly will, change. Brown has already actively walked back on many previous positions, the situation is always evolving. Personally speaking, I think Oregon response has been a mixed bag, but the reopening strategy has been particularly rocky. The most obvious indication is that we are jumping the recommended plans and opening bars and restaurants earlier than anticipated. This is nearly certainly because we have to. Lottery funds have been devastated, and unless that piggy bank gets back online and fast... the state will have a budget hole far, far, far to big to overcome. It is already going to be brutal, with widespread budget cuts and layoffs. We have already instigated a 10% budget cut and frozen all hiring. It is the sad reality. If this was informed only on the safety of Oregonians, the strategy would of been reopening basically all other businesses OTHER than bars and restaurants for 21 days... What will decide the fate of football is the hospital numbers over the summer. Every single day, in every hospital in the state, we have steadily decreased COVID hospitalizations over the last month. We are actually sitting at below average census for Oregon hospitals right now. it is kind of weird. There has been no reversal of that trend despite elective procedures trickling back in (only been a couple days, I know). For better or for worse, the Feds are going to force her hand. There is no hope for a federal bail out for Oregon in this administration. Bills have to be paid, and economic pressure is going to become too great to overcome, sadly.

I vented at our leadership on this immediately after it was stated. FWIW, it was never explicitly stated in drafts we previously saw, not that we are all privy to everything. we get bits and pieces of things to add advice and comments on. this was not one of those things.

Its time that Ray, the new president, and the AD along with the same from the ducks to have a face to face with brown.

She can take her "no large gatherings through at least September" and shove them up .... I’m right there with ya. What a completely ridiculous thing to say.

"Through September". June, July, August. Right? Not through the end of September, or through October. Not sure what you mean. She said no large gatherings through September which in my translation means til at least September 30th. There are (were) three home games scheduled in September. Yeah, my wife says I’m interpreting that wrong also. You know what that means. You’re right too! To me, it would be more clear if she had given a date. Sept 30. Aug 31. Something like that. Maybe it’s just my wishful thinking. Whatever happened to the Western State Coalition anyway?? What a joke.

I read that there were only like 52? ICU beds occupied in the entire State of Oregon? Not the Portland Met Area, the whole State. Meanwhile the hospitals go broke, nurses laid off (that from an interview with the nurses union rep), and an unknown number of citizens deteriorate or die due to being denied treatment considered non-essential. Like Alec Guinness once said: Madness!

Governor Brown is definitely caught between a rock and hard place. Tough decisions. Anyway, some of the people I am acquainted with who are most against any reopening have smoked like a furnace most of their life, fruit and vegetables are dirty words in their diet vocabulary, and exercise amounts to walking to the refrigerator for beer. I gripe about Governor Brown, but Oregon hasn't seen some of the extreme measures of other states and the law enforcement definitely hasn't been over the top. Hopefully, a common sense approach to college athletics prevails. And I sure as hell have no clue what that will be at this point.

Last week of March, first week of April, it looked real scary.

Either way it's insane to say there won't be gatherings until a vaccine is found - as one may never be found. ...or we eventually achieve herd immunity. I hope a vaccine is found first. Hopefully the games can be played without fans. I feel for the players, their families, and the staff. OSU can keep the gates closed to fans just like they do the rest of the year.
