I believe in the First Amendment:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

I don't see anything in there that prohibits me as an individual from criticizing the speech or beliefs of another individual.

There is no 1A protection from stupidity.

No one is gonna take Ted Gundy's t-shirt or put him in jail for what he says/wears.

We the people have every right, and duty, to call him out.

Even if you don't agree with that statement, do you agree that his team can/should call him out if he's offensive?

Nope. 

It is the paradox of tolerance. Which is to say a society that is tolerate without limitations will be seized and destroyed by the intolerant. For the intolerant don't care, and will take advantage of your tolerance towards the advancement of their agenda, right up until it is too late to stop it. It goes all the way back to Plato that first ruminated on this, and was made largely popular in more modern times by Karl Popper. He, of course, had a lot to say on the matter as he witness the rise of Nazism in Germany and based much of his writing on that.  

There does, in fact, exist ideas and thoughts and words that are just, profoundly stupid. "We" the people are under no obligation to entertain these notions. I am not saying people need to be mean, or attack others. but we do not, for example, have to entertain and protect the idea of Flat Earth. Nope. we can keep on just accepting these people are complete and total morons. because ultimately allowing this belief does lead to tangible harm to society. It literally undermines all of math and science and technology and hundreds of years of... well f%#*ing everything!

What we all have to do, is do our absolute best to LISTEN, to understand, to empathize and only then, to judge. Sometimes an argument you disagree with does have merit. it does have value. and sometimes it actually represents harm to others. 

I do not, and will not, entertain and protect the speech that, for example, would say In my opinion black people are an inferior race and we should ship them all back to Africa. Nope. Not worth protecting, not worth respecting, and it hurts other people. Not only an asshole thing to say, but an idea that attempts to literally harm some 40 million of my fellow Americans. 

Sometimes an idea is more than just unpopular.

100% correct. Just like Hubbard and other players have the right to express themselves and act as they see fit. 

So it's okay for players to go play FOR Dabo Swinney because of his political views, but it's not okay for other players to "cancel" on a coach they don't agree with?
