Just curious what folks on this board have heard/are anticipating regarding attending football games this year.
1. Are we not in the window where if there were spikes in COVID 19 from protesting we would be seeing them? Seems like this could hurt re-opening or become a valid reason to continue to loosen restrictions but I don't hear anyone in the state media/gov talking about it.
2. Anyone heard how often we will be testing athletes during the course of the summer and fall?
3. I think I've let go of attending any Road Games this year, but I will hold out on updates before bowl season if we were so fortunate.
I want to get excited about football but with the way baseball was shut down and the MLB seems to be in an internal struggle that will never end I'm very guarded.

I anticipate season ticket holders, family members, and a few thousand students will be allowed. I am guessing a max attendance of about 22000. In my opinion. What should happen is season ticket holders should be given their normal seats. If they don't feel comfortable sitting around others there will be plenty of room to spread out.

Just a general update (no editorializing, just what the data shows today) 1. We are seeing some spikes due to protests in the PDX area, it is minimal. Hospitalizations are only up slightly in the Portland metro area. so far, so good. The outbreak in La Grande is a much bigger deal than protests, really, in terms of COVID. 2. Oregonian has an article on this. Every athlete that showed up yesterday was tested and essentially quarantined until Thursday when tests will be back. All players were instructed to self quarantine for 14 days prior to coming to campus. Players will work out in "pods" of 10 players. pods will be isolated from each other. 2 pods will be allowed in the Sports Performance Center at a time, then the facility will be cleaned and the next two pods come in. 3. My only comment is to just read the situation in the place you want to go and make your own judgement about safety. COVID isn't equitably spread across the nation, some places are dealing with it better than others. |

It's only anecdotal evidence (me) but I don't think I will attend. Maybe a vaccine or better treatment will be available for an infection will be available by November. More relevant (to me again) is will I give myself a haircut.

Unlike hydroxychloroquine and remdisvir, the newly tested Dexamethasone (a steroid asthma treatment) was just shown to reduce the risk of death of patients on ventilators by 30% and patients on supplemental oxygen 20%. Of course early, but much better outcomes than either of the previous to highly touted treatments. long term side effects and other risks remain to be seen. |

Unfortunately, mrs sage and I will not be in attendance this year. We are old and both have underlying conditions. It would not be smart. Not only will we miss the excitement of the game, what we will miss more is the tailgating and seeing our friends. I am sad saying this. GO BEAVS.

As far as I can tell, that study on this has not been published yet, so it's early, but great news! Also, dexamethasone has been around for more than 60 years. Long-term side effects include thrush, bone loss, cataracts, easy bruising, and muscle weakness. |

With the pop up of all of these recent workplace outbreaks - I am afraid that I do not wish to take the chance of being near a crowd right now, before the vaccine is available. It is difficult enough dealing with a rather small number of people at work every day, let alone thousands at once. I have no idea how they are going to run the vegetable canneries later this summer, where there is no safe spacing and the food must be harvested and packaged in a very narrow window.
I am very pleased to see an inexpensive steroid able to help many people, but I would rather not end up on a ventilator in the first place.
Also, I would expect the tickets to come with a waiver of risk to sign off on. Perhaps even the parking passes. If you are coming on campus for a game, I predict stuff like that.

I'm also leaning towards staying away. A lot could certainly change between now and Sept/Oct but as of now it just doesn't seem worth the risk to see us play Sportsball against Portland State.

If you are coming on campus for a game, I predict stuff like that. around 220 cases are now tied to a church that stopped following social distancing guidelines in late May. In a matter of days, Union county is the 5th highest county by counts, after MultCo, Marion, Washington, Clackamas. and unlike those counties with hundreds of thousands of residents, Union has 27,000. I think it is a pretty good reminder of what a large crowd at Reser could do. I think it is also worth noting that this church basically did zero prevention whatsoever, performed full services, hosted weddings and graduation parties, nobody wearing a mask, etc. |

I may have to take one for the team this year.......It seems like every time I have a conflict and can't attend, the Beavs pull out a home win. (exception being the Cal game 2yrs ago). If I stay away and the Beavs go bowling, you guys know who to thank!!
I am hoping the pandemic settles down by fall or a vaccine becomes available. I would hate to miss the whole season.

Like Sage, we won't be present. Very healthy, but in the older group. Our attendance has dwindled for a few years anyway. Now baseball will be the tough decision. I hope those who want to attend can attend.
I am not anti-church or anti-religion, but the Union County item shows serious irresponsibility. It also casts a huge shadow over the possibility of large gatherings such as football games.

Not from an anti-church bias or anything, but from the perspective of this has been hard on everyone. This has hurt everyone, but still MOST people are following the rules. Most people are in this together. Most people have taken it on the chin, lost jobs, lost money, lost experience and all that... But have rolled with the punches, followed the rules (mostly) and have been working together to get through this. it is evident in the large picture when you compare Oregon's numbers to national numbers, particularly from a per capita and positive percentage perspective. Then you have a group just giving all of that the finger. I just find it all really disrespectful. It doesn't really matter if it doesn't amount to large hospital numbers or deaths or anything like that (so far, 4 hospitalizations related to this... that is a low number) It is what the action represented and the spit in the face of all of us that are suffering and sacrificing to get through it. |
