I could care less about changing the name of our sports rivalry with Oregon.
What I do know is we have the superior University. We are the older college(founded in 1856). Free Masons started OSU and continue to support it to this day. The Masons are builders and create excellent foundations for human enlightenment and achievement.
The University of Oregon is located on land deemed special to the Kalapuya tribe, that tribe was forced to the Oregon Coast. They are now part of the Confederated Tribes of Grande Ronde and Siletz.
My preference would be for wokesters to bulldoze UofO to the ground, and return sacred land to the Kalapuya. We only need one major University in Oregon, and that University is "Oregon State University".
I'm all for changing base names and taking down confederate monuments and other memorabilia that was put up to intimidate Americans, but the PC movement is running amok.
They tore down a statue of Grant in SF...the general who led the war to end slavery in America and wrote about how it was the right thing to do in his autobiography. Yes, he was a slave-owner and -trader but jumped on the right team when the s%#t hit the fan and did a fine job in delivering a freer nation. Is there no acknowledgement or forgiveness when a person changes the error of their ways?
Now we want to get rid of the name of the war in which America triumphed over would-be tyrants and traitors? Slavery is a stain in our history and the Civil War was the action in which honorable men crushed the dishonorable men who would've continued it. There is no shame in being on the right side of history.
Let's tear down all the WWII monuments. Who cares that America helped wipe Nazis off the face of the Earth and crushed Imperial Japan and then had the honor to help our enemies get back on their feet when it was all over? The important thing to remember is that our armed forces were deeply segregated at the time and we should remember it only as a time of shame.

Cool. I will adopt the new name and cheer on my Beavers in this, uh, to-be-named event.
I just wish Dr. Ray's leadership and attention to detail in this past year could have also extended to managing the cost overruns that have led to us repeatedly downsizing and removing features from the new Forestry building, or that he might have issued a statement or some consequences for the same Forestry department chopping down, or, if the violent imagery offends you, "managing" 400+ year old trees.
But, hey, the latest Oregon Stater had an article placing him on a pedestal and made no mention of any blemishes on his spotless record, so I must have gotten it wrong.
Go Beavers! Win the whatever-its-name event!!
