Lisa Leslie had lots of hype, great player, fashion model, role model, based in LA, etc. and never really went anywhere on a national scale. She's known more for USC and national team than WNBA. I don't think there is much of a market for WNBA players, most people have never heard of Sue Bird, or any other WNBA player. I don't think Nike will change that much for SI. Women soccer players have been much more marketable as pros, going way back to Mia Hamm. Probably because of the World Cup and Olympics hype, and soccer is more relatable for girls, not sure SI has the charisma to pull it off. NY will be a bad team for the near future, and the way she plays, so physical, I wouldn't be surprised to see her get worn down. I'm surprised she hasn't been injured more in her career with her style of play. She can definitely hang with the WNBA, but it's more based on overall athleticism and effort than speed, quickness, height, will be interesting to see how she evolves her game as the league's scouting reports develop a plan to defend her.

We shall see, won't we? Lisa Leslie didn't have the aforementioned Uncle Phil hyping her image. It's a pretty good confluence of circumstances for Ionescu - big name, big talent at the college level, playing professionally in the Big Apple, and ... Uncle Phil. I wish her well.

Looks like the all world rookie went for 33 points, 6 for 10 for three pointers against Dallas in her second game. Rest of the team had 37 points total. New York still lost. I know some were hoping to see her fail as a pro. She torched the US National Team, this idea that she couldn't cut it in the WNBA was pretty strange (not just the comment in this thread, I've seen it on other message boards). This may be the first time since, elementary school?, that the Queen is surrounded by comparatively lesser talent on the team. See Joey 5 Picks and Akili Smith as examples when they made the jump from college to pro. Think of it as a, welcome to reality moment. You don't get to choose to surround yourself with 5 star talent like in college. You now have to build from the bottom up, can you handle the losing right now?

That's another thing entirely, but certainly valid. NY isn't good right now, and won't be for at least several years while all those young players mature.

That was a nasty looking ankle roll by SI. I hope she's OK.

Looks like Wiese started tonight against the Fever. Gulich is in the box score in Q1, I believe this is her season debut.

I think Lauren Cox is having bad flashbacks of the last time she ran into Gulich.

Good game tonight for Oregon St. grads. Wiese started and Gulich was the first big off the bench. Gulish also didn't play in the fourth quarter after they pulled most of the starters after getting a 21 point lead. That is a good sign in respect to where she stands with respect to the depth chart.

It was great watching Syd and Marie on the floor together.

Gulich joined Wiese in the starting lineup tonight. Syd off to a quick start, 7 points in the first 3 1/2 minutes.

Wiese went quiet for quite a while, then ended the first half w/ a flurry. An and-1 and a pair of 3's. 16 points on 5-6 shooting, she's having a fantastic game.
Gulich has had her moments, but has struggled a bit as well.

Wiese finished w/ 18 on 6-9 shooting. No shot attempts in the 4th quarter. Gulich had 7 pts/5 boards, had a pretty sweet block on Aj'a Wilson. Close game, Las Vegas won. I've never been a big fan of Chelsea Gray, she was horrible this game. Totally selfish, kept jacking shots and missing. Not what you are looking for from a PG. Pretty much cost them this game.
