Apparently cancelling season.
At least that negates the weak Portland St claim for some dough.

There is little doubt in my mind the Power 5 will do the same Maybe the South (SEC) will secede from the US for the ability to have football games. Then, can we call our game the Civil War again?

Can't do. Then people will accuse us of supporting the Civil War and thus painfully reminding people of slavery.

There is little doubt in my mind the Power 5 will do the same I can live without the NBA, MLB and NFL. Not having any beaver sports this fall will be really tough I hope it doesn't happen but don't see how it will happen.

Just in the last 48 hours or so have I resigned myself to the idea that having any kind of football this year is a long shot.

Scary thought is that there's discussion about spring sports being cancelled... This could be a multiyear problem

Scary thought is that there's discussion about spring sports being cancelled... This could be a multiyear problem They should suspend sports til we have a vaccine AND the case numbers head well down. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that happens by late December/January, then they should be ready to put together a M&W basketball season and a spring football season, maybe baseball and softball, and if they can squeeze in gymnastics fine, then call it a day and return to a regular sports rotation the following year.

What makes you think the seasons should be canceled for the P5 schools? I get the smaller conferences that can’t support the costs associated with continuing where canceling is a net gain monetarily. There likely will not be any fans - at least for the majority of the first half. I’m sure that anyone that doesn’t want to participate for health concerns would be not penalized (players or coaches or supporting staff). The data shows that if your under 50 the death rate is so low for a healthy person it probably doesn’t even crack the top ten causes - I think it is the third leading nationally, but the overwhelming number of those would have died from another top cause sooner rather than later (underlying issue ie cancer, etc). I don’t what to seem callous either I know people have lost love ones and I know this whole thing sucks and can be scary and everyone knows someone that proves their point one way or the other. I think players would be safer on campus, being tested, competing to be better, with access to team heath care, pushing to win and supporting their team mates - as opposed to being home. Clearly the schools have a vested interest in making the season happen and should put the utmost into protecting student athletes. I certainly don’t want to make anyone do anything they don’t want to but we shouldn’t prevent everyone from doing things they do want to if they understand the potential risks and agree to the methods of mitigation. I’m very skeptical there will ever be a vaccine that proves effective.

Nowadays though, if anyone so much as comes down with a blister there's finger pointing, someone gets sick or dies when we all know it's a possibility we're talking lawsuits. Best for all the college teams to sit this one out.

I’m very skeptical there will ever be a vaccine that proves effective. To make the season happen, it isn’t just the players. Refs, coaches, trainers, photographers, cameramen, journalists and who knows what else. Too many factors. Too much traveling. They can’t keep all of those elements safe, so the idea is ludicrous. Worse, there has already been talk of coaches telling players not to report symptoms. And I’m sure that there are kids who would rather not miss out on a couple weeks of games, so they’d play sick. None of that is worth it. Really.
