What is the definition of a trap game? Isn't it looking ahead to the next opponent, which for us is a BYE week? They still have the kids watch "tape" correct... so they saw WSU hold Cal to 6 points at Cal? The UW win was nice, but we were favored. I think our players would admit they didn't play there best game against UW... so getting back to work at practice to clean things up should have been the clear motivation. Not trying to argue but I thought a trap game was getting a big win, usually an upset and having a another big game in 2 weeks that is stealing your attention from your game this week. Just doesn't seem to fit the formula. I think this game is about responding to the bad taste in our mouth of 2 turnovers, a pour passing effort and needing to shore up our run defense after a close win vs UW. I see both points here.....maybe a "let down" game after B2B wins against schools who have mostly owned us, historically? If results so far are to be counted on, we should be able to go in, control the LOS, and pound the rock, from the get-go. That's best case scenario and then we go from there.......sometimes what should happen doesn't, especially on the road with a relativley inexperienced (at this level) QB, coming off a pretty poor outing......but this is where coaching comes in......putting our guys in a position to succeed. I don't see a lot of over the top bombs like we saw at USC.....at least not intitially. Although, you don't want to come out too vanilla.....I imagine the first couple drives will be run and run some more with a couple Colletto drive extending conversions.....why not? No one has stopped it even when they know it's coming....and now hes handing it off too! Historically if I saw back to back games against USC & UW, I'd be worried about being "beat up" for the next game. Both those teams recruit at the top of the conference which leads to usually being out matched physically. That physicality can lead to injuries to our team, which lacking depth, can lead to a catastrophic season. (Like our trip to the Coliseum in 2014) This year that didn't happen. We competed and either held our own or dominated 'the trenches.' Smitty has a different team in year 4 then he had the first 3 years. "We're ready to win and are winning."

The tea leaves from our games, WSU's games, USC common opponent, stats, Martin Stadium, coaching, etc. concludes OSU should win this with confidence. Yes WSU could win this but just not seeing what OSU would catastrophically have to fail at to lose this. Nolan had a bad game because UW had a great pressure D. WSU does not have the same horses to pull that off to the effective level the Huskies did. We can and will win this game. It is not a "trap" game and does not have the makings of it. Had OSU beaten ASU or UO then go in and lose to WSU, I would call that a trap game. (and will be humble if I am wrong).

The key is Nolan. He HAS to play better than he did last week.

Nolan will be playing against a softer pass defense for sure, because there are almost no teams better than Washington against the pass nationally. He had 5-6 just awful throws against Washington. If Baylor cannot find room, we need Nolan to cut down on the bad passes, set his feet and throw with authority. We can't let Wazzu's safeties creep up. We also can't allow Wazzu the luxury to drop seven or eight like Washington did and get away with it. The offense that we saw against USC needs to reappear in Pullman.

We'll see a better Nolan and in part I think the receivers will play better. There were 3 drops and 2 would've been first downs I can't remember if the third would've been and at least 1 stalled the drive. Nolan was confused when they showed blitz and then dropped into coverage. He needs to do a better job of recognizing coverages in this next game and I highly doubt he won't. I'm almost positive he'll take a lot from reviewing the film from the last game. He left a lot of plays that could've been made out there and he'll see that. Some he should've just ran or made a guy commit to his zone or him.

Are those statistics from before or after we handed UW the loss? We killed the Huskies defensive stats, which were quite good prior to that game.

For a kid who nearly set OSU’s record for number of completions in a row, I find your lack of faith disturbing (one of my favorite movie quotes).

Chance did not have a good day but it wasn't as bad as some people seem to make it out to be. He finished 1 completion below .500 and hit his receivers in the hands 2/3rds of the time. Heck, Jonathan Smith’s 1st season he completed 44% of his passes, 2nd season he completed 48%. The whole offense looked a little disjointed at times last Saturday, and the passing game wasn't as effective as usual, but it wasn't all on Nolan.

That was probably the worst game statistically in JS’s career.

Nolan can use his legs to move the ball - I’m not calling for him to be a true running QB - but the threat of him running will only help our O.
Maybe few read option plays can help stall the rush a little?

Yep, time to move on from the Cougs and use 2 weeks for this team to figure out what they can and want to be this season. A bit of a mess with this program right now.
