I can have an opinion and so can you. Perfectly fine, but In my opinion and based on several insiders, Riley's main benefit to any program was that he was a 'likable' guy. He was not an innovator, not a great recruiter and never won a big game that meant something. He is too loyal to mediocre staff. Everyone has issues, especially after they get locked into doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. I can guarantee that if we bring him back again, for any reason, I will cancel my 4 season tickets and stop all University donations. For what these guys are getting paid , they need to be engaged and a strong representative of the University. I will hold Andersen to the same standard, but I can already say that - aside from last year's record, he is doing things that Riley shrank away from. He can actually talk, and talk positively, in front of a microphone.... Listening to Riley was like a tape recording of someone coming out of anesthesia. Nothing anyone says will change my opinion or, in fact, the opinion of others that are in a better position than any of us to see the problems first hand. Sorry, I am not a political type, I want to see Oregon State grow in athletics along with the academics and the best city in the PAC 12 mentions. Others are happy with declining mediocrity and excuses about how 'it's so tough to recruit to Corvallis , probably the toughest job in the Country' . Give me a break. LMAO... so YOUR opinions are based on insiders? Then they would not be yours, but just regurgitation!? As for "opinion"... no really said anything about you not being able to have an opinion... BUT... -We can state it is not only wrong but based on lack of info, intelligence on the game of football, or both. -this last post was your closest attempt to stating a opinion. Your other posts about MR were basically attacks... even going to the immature level of dismissing his choice of colleges. If you're going to state such nonsense that is obviously biased vitriol based on zero facts you are going to hear about it. Been reading Dale Carnegie again?

Video shows some serious speed and some quicks when it comes to jukes and changing direction. I only watched a portion of the tape but only saw one wide open reception ( lot's of space ). Being able to hook up with HS teammates is a good thing and contributes to the GA culture rebuild. GA is going after every athlete that he sees that fits the system. I love that. MR undersold Corvallis, the University and the program. I guess that is why he dissed Corvallis for Alabama, where he rode the bench. Ya just lose all cred when you have to end a post by dissing MR. As mentioned, there is no need and says way more about you and your mentality than anything else. Tells us what great accomplishment you have... good enough at anything to be on a "team" of Alabama's caliber in whatever field you're in??? You could only hope to carry MR's jock strap!! Please grow up...

Beaverfever - you are very narrow minded. You probably still want Craig Robinson to be our basketball coach. Maybe you don't recall but the last two seasons that MR was here, people were leaving at halftime and the season ticket counts dropped substantially. It was like watching Pop Warner football with volunteer coaches. Sorry , I am alum and I think my school deserves better than that. Anderson is not shrinking into the woodwork and riding a bike to the bank while collecting a seven figure salary and insane contract extensions. The chance he comes back is that he continues to screw the pooch at Nebraska. It was laughable how he continued to make the same stupid mistakes over and over again. However, hopefully, at least me - we have learned from our mistakes. As far as season tickets , it's a lot more than the seating cost for the four tickets and I give scholarship donations and student athlete donations over and above that. But, forget about that - Riley's last year I couldn't GIVE my tickets away, and when I did go there was far more booing than cheering... And the whole time, Riley is on the sidelines with his stocking cap on showing about as much fire and emotion as a tranquilized monkey. So if you guys are content with that type of coaching and performance - enjoy yourselves !

Ah, I get it, temper equals winning.
We'll see how you feel about Riley's stint at NU when he picks up 10 or more wins this year.

Unfortunately it won't matter if MR wins a conference championship and goes to the 'final four'... the haters always come up with ridiculous circular arguments that take a while to read thru and basically say nothing. It's obvious that "hof and associates"... the Riley haters... are smarter than the NFL execs, D1 administration that not only know the character of the man, but he knows a little football too. What a huge mistake both OSU (twice for gawd's sake), Nebraska, San Diego, the USC's and others that tried to lure him away made... what fools. I wonder if "hoffmeister" had good seats?! I have friends coming on board who have moved back to Oregon, and others adding seats. Dumb idea I know... but, they're just BEAVER fans who support the best college in the state of Oregon, in the best college town in the Pac 12.

Attacking the guy for riding his BIKE??? Bringing up TICKET SALES and SALARY?? Andersen is making nearly TWICE what Riley did, and the tanking in ticket sales between Riley and Andersen is absolutely abominable. The only game with worse attendance in the Riley era than the Andersen era was the re-scheduled Nicholls State game. The average attendance last year was literally THOUSANDS less than any year since stadium expansion. And commenting on how the coaching looked Pop Warner?? Honestly, we had our doors blown off by the 2nd quarter in more game in 2015 than Riley did in any 5 years. The unwarranted HATE for Riley is so blinding in some people it's ridiculous. Your post is so laughable it almost comes off like satire.

Don't see the need to put down Riley. He had several players over the years that followed teammates or family in later classes. It is nice, and kind of unusual, that we've got 2 QBS from Chandler in our top 3 at that position and quite nice that Green is following. What I haven't seen mentioned yet is that he was state champ in the 110 meter hurdles this last spring.... he's got some atletic ability and speed. Have we had another former state champion hurdler since DA? Don't see the need to defend Riley.

I'll likely be defending Anderson in a year or two.

Count me among the people who were shocked at the steep drop in ticket sales last season. Given the enthusiasm around Beaver athletics (The Wayne Tinkle Era was underway, Women's basketball was killing it, I believe Volleyball made the sweet 16, men's soccer made the tournament, and baseball was coming off a Pac-12 title and a top overall seed in the 2014. I distinctly remember thinking "ticket sales are gonna be huge for football." Seemed like Beaver Nation was abuzz with positive vibes.
Then you started hearing things from the athletic department like "ticket renewals are 50% ahead of the pace of renewals last season" with no mention of new season ticket holders or anything like that. Still, I wasn't prepared for the absolute exodus from Reser that happened during the season. I don't think that's Andersen's fault....tickets are typically sold before you see the product on the field.
When you see that there are plenty of seats still available for the Civil War (with some seats available for $60), well, I don't think there's any coming back from this short of a Rose Bowl. People have found other ways to enjoy Beaver football, and there's too many excuses to NOT go now - all games televised, night game issues, price of seats, etc....and to be honest, the only reason I have season tickets right now is because I know as soon as I get out of the habit of buying them, I'll probably never come back, and I'd like to be in the stadium when it starts to turn positive for us again (and it will. I don't know when or how or under who, but it will).
Also, I will say up front that each and every one of you has a right to spend your money how you see fit, and I respect your right to voice your opinion with your dollars....but the idea of yanking support for a low-income student in engineering because you don't like the football coach seems extremely unfair to the engineering student. I'll admit that all of my support goes to Beaver athletics for my own selfish reasons...I have a ton of respect for those of you who donate to the academics side who don't expect a return on your investment beyond a thank you letter from a gracious student or faculty member.

Number of ticket sales may have been down in 2015, but according to USA Today, ticket revenue for OSU was up almost $900K--making it the biggest year for ticket revenue in OSU history. I think jacking up the prices for individual football games is what surely did it. I'd rather have more butts in the seats, personally. sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/finances/

I think a lot of the ticket increase came from men's basketball, which added 1,000 new season tickets and increased butts in seats by 1,667/game over the previous year. Yes, the elevated single game prices help offset the defections, but the success of other sports that require you to purchase a ticket (men's and women's basketball in particular) were the driving force.
I always questioned why the athletic department didn't do a "Commit 2 Gary" campaign the way they did with Wayne Tinkle. Don't know if they thought it was too much of a risk to discount football tickets that much, or if they just assumed the new coach would drive ticket sales, but it seemed like a no-brainer to me after the success of the basketball campaign.

Re: Commit to Gary.... the Beavs average attendance Robinson's last year was only 4k a game, worst in the history of Gill. That'd be the equivalent of only putting 15-16k butts in the seats at Reser. It was nowhere near that bad Riley's last year... 42k seats in a 45k seat stadium is well above average at that level. Basketball had little to lose with a price drop in exchange for the extra seats they hoped to generate over multiple years, with football, if they cut prices by 10% they could fill the stadium and still lose money over the 2014 season.
