It wasn't to long ago when many were complaining or questioning why he was being left on the field when he could not cover recievers. I heard comments about him being too slow, get lost in coverage, etc, etc.
Hey he had a great year and now he is leaving. That is due to the new game in town which will probably destroy college sports.

Omar was an All-State player in Philly as a Junior and rated the top player in the state (per OSU bio). He moved to Corvallis as a senior because his older brother Jeromy Reichner was a DE for the Beavs (oft-injured as you know). He became a 4-star per Rivals at Crescent Valley. He will be sorely missed.

There is a strategy guys are doing for evaluation. They are entering seeing what pops up and accepting or pull from the portal. It helps them evaluate their options and also helps with the cost benefit of going in the draft. Just because he's in the portal doesn't mean he's gone or not going in the draft either. Smith is very open about making sure players evaluate options and make the best decisions for them.
Omar has pretty much anchored the defense since Smith arrived and no matter what he does he's earned it.

But it hurts (personally) to see him leave. Like when you really like a girl and she isn’t liking you back. Stings. Very interested to know what the buyout was.

Curious to me why an established player would leave a team on the rise...gotta be for NIL$$$ I guess its the new 'abnormal' I wonder if maybe giving NIL money to portal transfers and not established players has anything to do with it. Wish him the best. Go Beavs!

The NIL sucks for college football. Instead of paying them a solid stipend they have set up as a highest paying "professional" gets the gold. Rich get richer again. Plus the game loses all of it's traditional appeal.
I don't blame the players though, and I have to thank Omar for being a great Beaver player!

Curious to me why an established player would leave a team on the rise...gotta be for NIL$$$ I guess its the new 'abnormal' I bear no ill feelings toward Omar, and appreciate all that he did to help our defense to make significant strides the past couple of years. However, I really have mixed feelings about the entire transfer portal and NIL scene. How hypocritical of me given that I’m thrilled to be getting DJU, the O-lineman from Nevada, the Edge rusher from Wyoming and LB from Utah via that source. While I’m not sure of the role of NIL in adding substantial talent to the roster, we definitely have benefited from the transfer portal provision as well. What troubles me most is that from a purist perspective, I would prefer to see the portal limited to players who 1) can’t seem to get on the field in their current situation and are reduced to practice fodder and/clipboard holders on Saturdays as they watch their eligibility slip away, 2) are in a program in which there is a coaching change that turns things upside down, or 3) are in a program that has a very dysfunctional culture and need to escape the toxicity . I struggle with the idea of team leaders and standout players just deciding to pull up stakes and chase another program. I can see a guy moving up from a non-Power 5 conference or lower division to give himself a chance to play against the best and get more exposure among scouts, etc. Omar is not doing a thing “wrong” here, but it would be a lot easier for me if he were leaving to declare for the NFL draft than to go to another college program. There are many reasons that guys feel a need to change, and some are deeply personal (like relating to family) and none of our business, but it hurts to see a significant part of our success this year essentially unfriend (dramatic, I know, but just the feeling it conjures for me a little bit) us a few weeks after celebrating in Allegiant Stadium with us. Nonetheless, I wish him the best, and hope that the move helps him to attain his professional goals. Thanks for your contributions to some really good moments, especially the past two seasons, Omar.

This one stings. He's leaving a a pretty good thing.....I hope the money is worth it! Oh well, we want guys who are bought in to the program, not looking to up their value, and then bail. I have no issue with guys who get benched, or are buried on a depth chart, searching for greener pastures, but this just reeks of cashing in.....F the NIL! That said, I know there may be more to the story, but again, he's leaving something special that he's a huge part of. I don’t hold any bad feelings toward him other than feeling hurt by it. He’s given so much to this team and deserves whatever he’s earned. I wish he was returning to keep this thing going, but this is just how things go now. Hoping it’s about making a move closer to home (he’s from Pittsburgh, right?). I wish him continued success... unless he transfers to another pac-12 team. I don't agree with a guy being able to excel for a school, and then be poached by another school with more money to offer.......if he truly is transferring for a payday, it makes me feel like we are a farm team for bigger programs.

It always should have been a profit share situation with the university. It all can be gamed no matter but then atleast everyone involved gets a piece of the pie.

I'm glad to get players in the portal for sure, but I'd rather all of the NIL/portal go away in its current state. It is ruining college athletics......it's turning into Only Fans
