With the transfer portal, gone are the days where you can run a complex offense that takes 2+ years to learn. got to keep it simple, allow 1year QBs to excel because you may not get a decent QB for more than a year, 2 if you are lucky.

I think the answer is the air raid system. You can get by with less talented linemen, the quarterback reads are quick and simple. Mile Leach showed that you can bring guys in and have them excel right away. It’s tough for our 3 stars to play straight up against the better teams 4’s and 5’s. We need a strategic advantage

I don’t know what Bray/Gunderson will use, but I do hope it is simple

Likely a run first zone read type thing unless Gundy wants to build his own thing.

If Smith's system was complex, then he still managed to run it with essentially 1 year QBs. Not many of his QBs got a second year.

It really depends a lot on who wins the QB job and what that player brings to the table. My guess is that if it's Johnson, there will be some plays to allow him to get out and run or execute RPOs, etc. Apparently Gulbranson wants to come back. If he wins the job, it's going to be more like what we saw last year. A run first, but pretty balanced, offense. Probably pretty much the same if McCoy wins the job. I think eventually there will be a move to a more pass-oriented offense (not the Air Raid) but I don't see that for next year with Martinez back.

Smith (being a former QB, AND QB coach) NEVER developed a quarterback during his tenure here. Ever. Ironic.

So who turned Luton from a JC transfer who pretty much sucked under Anderpants into a fringe NFL QB?

He got better under Smith cause he stopped sharing bottles of Jack with GAG during the game.

Why would we change what got us here? New coaches = new system. Almost 100% of the time.
