I'm kind of with Billy Joel as far as what qualifies as "rock and roll," so pop, rap, folk, r+b, etc. are still rock and roll to me.
But come on, some of these acts border on "one hit wonder" status. Sinead? Devo?
Quick...without looking it up, name a song by the New York Dolls. Or name more than one by the MC5.
Zeppelin. Stones. Beatles. Madonna. Bowie. There's gotta be a huge presence for acts to get in.

Bowie was eligible for four years and was nominated twice before being inducted. One wonders what their criteria is.
A wise man, he didn't come to the ceremony.
