It's hard to tell exactly what's going on. Here's the best article on the dispute, as of six months ago. michiganadvance.com/2023/10/24/heres-where-the-msu-board-of-trustees-dispute-stands/From what I can tell, the trustee chair might be guilty of victim-blaming in text messages in the Brenda Tracy/Mel Tucker affair, meeting with a recently fired dean, and some trivial violations like flying in a donor's private jet. (MSU Trustee is an elected office, so such "donations" have to be declared as such.) Frankly, it looks it's retaliation for the chair previously attempting to force MSU to open up the files on Larry Nassar - the serial rapist/doctor. The Michigan AG is still investigating that case and MSU has been stonewalling for six years. The giveaway is that the other trustee involved has also long been beating the drum on the Nassar case. This looks to me like an administration getting payback on two elected officials that refuse to just "get along". So, yeah, MSU really is that scummy.

I spent a half hour or more looking for some actual detail and came up empty.

The report says, "“The Board dynamics, particularly the actions of Chair Vassar and Trustee Denno, have created a fear of retaliation amongst administrators and other MSU personnel,” the report said. “The identified conduct has created fissures that have weakened the governance structure of the University and encouraged and created openings for members of the MSU community to also circumvent the Administration and reporting protocols, by leveraging individual Board members to act on their behalf.”
Which sounds pretty terrible . . . all the "bullying" and the "circumvention of Administration protocols".
Until you realize that this a report commissioned by the administration, annoyed that the commissioners were circumventing the administration's cover up of the administration's cover up of the Nassar rapes.
They are writing the textbook on how to protect your bureaucracy from all accountability, even for hiding serial rape and sexual abuse. And Whitmer's statements make it sound like the administration will get away with it.

Someone up thread asked for some information about the ongoing poopfest that is Michigan State, so I provided some, friend. There are clearly many sides to it, and it’s swell if you disagree; I don’t necessarily agree with this report, either. 😺

We sort of already got to do this without the stigma of a "paycut". Thanks to JSmith leaving we got to hire Bray at a salary lower than his. Smith was going to make 4.85 million in 2024, Bray is only going to make 2 (still a raise from his DC salary). Assistant salary pool (also 4.85 million) will not change. So in reality we already took almost a 30% haircut without the negative press of having to say that out loud. IIRC, we aren't even using the whole assistant pool either since Bray hired mostly young guys stepping into new positions. So we probably shed even more than 30%. So, thanks for that JSmoooooove... Hope you are enjoying East Lansing All is not well at Michigan State at the moment. Can't imagine Jonathan is having a great time today considering the food fight that is the leadership of his current employer. They have only just emerged from the DISGRACEFUL Larry Nassar scandal. Only to steer right into the ditch again with the sordid Mel Tucker/Brenda Tracy disaster.
