Scrolling through the schools it is amazing the number of programs who lost 7 or more players to the portal. I only made it to the letter E, but the schools from A - E, 18 schools had 7 or more players enter the portal. As a fan it is getting so you have to learn a new roster of players every season. Few of those are losing 5-6 of their top players. Apples to oranges.

I think what's scary is the number of players who haven't landed at a new school. Some data expert should put together a deeper analysis over the course of a few years to identify how many players "did better" if that can be measured because I'm betting most of them didn't. It would make great educational material for retaining athletes.

Just highlighting the massive transfer turnover many schools are dealing with.

Am I alone in being disappointed in how few new and/or transfer portal players OSU WBB have signed up for next year?
I do not intend any criticism just concern.
Hopefully some of the more astute participants in this group will be able to give me some assurance that the "sky is not falling".

Of the 1300 or so players in the portal, about 550 have committed to new schools. I might assume that those 550 were the cream of the crop. Of the 750 left, there are few “A” players. Some are players that you wonder how they made it on to Division 1 teams. Some are players looking for more playing time. Some are development prospects. Some will not get offers from competitive teams. Not at the bottom of the barrel yet, but we get closer as time goes on. Just saying.

Yeah, the reality is Rueck does not have a lot of time left to land "OSU level" players out of the portal. I'm hoping he hits on a couple and fills in with some more foreign players, as I keep saying. The men's roster is pretty much set now. The women's program is lagging behind. It's not just basketball. When Bray was hired and was facing so much turnover, he hit the portal hard. I hope Rueck's heart is still in it at this point.

Hard for me to believe that by early March Rueck didn't see or hear of this mass exodus occurring. Yet he seems either completely caught off guard or lost a bit of enthusiasm or both.

I don't think too many of us are terribly concerned about the fate of several hundred D1 basketball players, and are certainly not 'scared' that many might have shot themselves in the foot. If a bunch of them will have to pay for it themselves if they want to continue their education somewhere, that's just fine by me.

From what Rueck said, he didn't have a clue. And from Talia said, the players didn't have a clue. And it seems he didn't have a clue about Jonas. None of the players who are transferring have been taken off of the player roster, Jonas is off of the coaches roster. Makes you think maybe not a happy separation. Jonas leaving with Beers in his back pocket is a bit odd.

When the 2024-25 roster is finalized and posted, they won't be.

If you can't read the Oregonian article, read the Eggers article which is linked in another thread. Eggers and Nick Daschle interviewed Rueck together and everything in the Oregonian is in Eggers. Plus Eggers has a few more details.
Eggers, for instance, notes that Deven Hunter has recently taken a trip to Australia.
