Why three MWC schools? I can see San Diego State and a second team. UNLV? Who else, though? You would have a seven-team West pod. Play all seven teams and then one home-and-home with teams back East. Play Notre Dame every fourth year. That works out pretty well. Would we get to kick UNC's hindquarters every year in baseball? Five years out of every 12. |

Yes. But I think the ACC will attempt to stay alive and will reach out to OSU and WSU to join. That scenario could be good if the ACC is able to build a bigger West Coast pod with the addition of probably at least three MWC schools and SMU. The pod could also take form as the new Pac-12, which merges with the ACC to form the PACC. It really depends on how big a hit the ACC takes. The addition of the Bay Area schools would certainly strengthen the foundation of a rebuilt Pac-12 but with the way things are headed in college football, I'm not sure how big of a difference it would make financially. Probably strong enough to bring in somewhere between the G5 conferences and what the Big 12 is slated to get in the new CFP deal. But probably much closer to G5 level. Why three MWC schools? SMU has to play for one pod or the other if it stays in the ACC. I like the idea of Oregon State playing regular games in Texas to keep a solid recruiting footprint down there. As far as which MWC schools, that would depend more on the ACC. I would expect San Diego State to top the list. Not sure about Boise State because of Stanford (and maybe the ACC also would turn up noses because of similar reasons). I would go with UNLV but no idea what the third school would be if not Boise State. |
