Good grief. yes on #3. And I even looked at the correct place and didnt choose it. I liked #1. It made me look at photos of an unknown (to me) place. on 5, I ignored the clue that would have got me in the neighborhood.

On yesterday's Japan photo, I guessed Sapporo. I looked at the distillery name from the photo and it said Hokkaido.

#3! Good golly! I don't understand how I was further away from #4 than ag87 Supposedly, the architecture is distinctive in #5. I was way off.

You're quibbling over 88 feet? 

I'm not sure of which photo you're talking about, but  to place a pin within 39-79 inches of the exact location on Google maps, you must know that spot very well and trust Google maps down to the inch.

I'd think just changing the focal length of lens used alone could easily make the "exact" location the camera taken a photo of a street scene appear different than one might expect.

Where did you guess for #5? 

The link did not help for #2.  I have never been to #2, so my guess was off.

My guess for #4 was wretched.  There were two obvious reasons why my guess was dumb.

At the time, the Nazis still had V2 rockets in the Netherlands and had a functioning Air Force and Navy.  The Nazis were even able to mount a counter-offensive into Hungary.

The Nazis still hoped to be able to push the Americans back over the Rhine at Remagen.  On the Eastern front, the Nazis still held Königsberg and all of Silesia and Austria into Hungary.  The Nazis still held Northern Italy and Mussolini was still alive.

Unternehmen Frühlingserwachen failed two days later in Hungary, meaning that the Nazis would quickly run out of oil. 

10 days later, the Nazis gave up on trying to retake the Bridge at Remagen and the Nazi's Western defenses failed.

Opole fell six days later.

With the defenses in the West crumbling and Königsberg being the only line of defense for the Nazis before Berlin, Hitler entered the bunker on April 1, 1945 never to leave.  Königsberg fell one week later, and the Soviets' final push into Berlin began on April 16th.  People were so fearful of Hitler that they were lying to him with Hitler only realizing that the war was truly lost about six days later.  (Hitler's often-memed speech was on April 22nd.)  It was still possible to escape for about three days, but Hitler decided to remain in Berlin and commit suicide.  Most of the Allies refused to believe that Hitler would stay in Berlin, because it meant almost certain death. 

Hitler committed suicide eight days later, and the new German leadership immediately began to make moves to end the war as favorable as could be managed.
