I worry that the change of heart might be due to Damw not wanting to be on a crap team his final season. Seems like a bit of a signal that spring practice wasn't looking great. Yeah, because a former coach with one foot planted here, and the other foot already out the door, with a "one and done" inconsistent QB, etc, etc, etc, is better than TB at the helm, with guys who really want to be here?
I think what the real story is, someone or multiple people in his inner circle started talking in his ear about this being his last year, and he needed to play on a bigger stage, and earn some serious money while doing it. I think it has little to do with how good/ bad OSU is going to be this year. It has been sold solely about DM's future - nothing else. And of course, that DM doesn't owe OSU anything - whether we agree or not.

The what changed is the question here. Hard to believe the offer now is that much different than the offers at the end of the season he presumably turned down. Hard to believe the outlook now is any worse than in January, some would argue, at least for one year, it is better than in January. We know more, we have certainty of next year, we know we at least have some money... What really changed is spring ball. The question is, is it because the offense looks to be more pass heavy than before (seems likely given what Bray and Gundy have said...) or does it look like we will be terrible? The optimism in me hopes the former. Martinez looked to not actually be the star of this offense. Or maybe, it isn't any of that, and at one time being honorable mattered but other parties wore him down over time. Maybe as others have speculated he doesn't believe there is really an NFL future and wants the bag as much as he can get, when before he thought otherwise? I don't know that we will ever know. I will say, of all the positions to lose talent at, RB is generally the more replaceable place. There was life after Simonton, and Jackson, and Bernard, and Ward and Woods, and Nall and Baylor...

Reports are that the OL line has not looked good in Spring. So, that could possibly have something to do with it.

This is not the year for a major rebuild of both the O and D lines - even if TB is up for the challenge long term

Yeah. Last year's team is probably better than this year's. We lost hundreds of starts on both sides of the ball.

He spent a lot of time running behind a sure top 10 NFL pick this year, and possible the first OL selected. Even if the line isn't that bad objectively, nobody we have now is anywhere close to the measure of Tailise Fuaga. It is hard to deny the situation isn't as good for him as it once was.

Canzano said he turned down 400k to stay. Then WTF are we doing? And why?

My personal opinion is that Martinez was more a product of a fabulous Oline - one that gave him huge running lanes most of the time. Now, we have a new system, a young Oline that will undoubtedly struggle in its infancy ... and most likely very tough yards for all our running backs. And if he's being offered lucrative deals ... why not take the best one? Hard to turn down. IMO, we will be just fine.

In the current environment, if anyone is renewing their tickets based on 1 player, that is a "you" problem. I will cheer for whoever is here, but I'm not assuming anyone will stay more than 1 year.
