For those reading this I stress previous 5-6 figure #s were BS. The collective didn't have the resources from '22 thru June '24. Larger donating will be there for '24-25, but as told it will just be doled out indiscriminately. Plus these "sources" are tossing out unrealistic #s. Donors want their $ invested wisely. They are not going to give large chunks annually to see it evaporate on players who leave anyway. Optimally a trust like fund to be gradually built while still providing for present needs. Nor will auction-like outbidding happen. Also payment/merch payouts/contracts may need to be adjusted to the portal windows somehow. At any rate the OSU NIL situation is improving, but it's never going to compete with larger collectives. However, nor will it ever be shady!! There is also a move by some schools to get reimbursed for schollie $ if an athlete enters the portal after a term is paid, and signs with another school before the term ends. I'm not sure OSU will venture down that rabbit hole?! As far as baseball goes... funds/options are a bit more important due to the low scholarship limit and fairly large roster. But, the amounts don't have to be crazy big to really help out. As players on partials can at least get school paid/etc with a low 5 figure number. Low 5 figure number will not cover players on partials in baseball. Do you know how much tuition is? Low 5 figures won’t even cover 1 term. Low 6’s would be needed. Lol...I know exactly how much. FFS... $40k-60k is mid... many of the "out state" players will qualify under WUE and other programs. Some have resident status. Each is is own situation. Some have great family financials. R&B is not part of tuition. And, most players are not in/on a dorm package, so living situations are not the main consideration. As stated "help out" is the goal... not a full ride. And, believe me 5 figures of any sum is welcomed by every player included.

I have two going in the fall.......and one of them is going to the dark side. I'm gritting my teeth paying money to the evil empire in Eugene. Unfortunately, OSU doesn't have the major she's looking for. my oldest graduates OSU this year, and my youngest starts this fall. What is worse? two at the same time or 8 straight years of it... 10ish years straight and getting 4 through in that time span. I know…

Unfortunately, OSU doesn't have the major she's looking for. That's unfortunate. When my oldest thought his wrestling career was over due to injuries, he toured uofo and that alone was a rough day and I also feared writing them a check. Made me nauseous. Fortunately he healed up and resumed wrestling. Middle one - was down to UW and OSU. UW offer wasn't great given astronomical out of state tuition, OSU offered him full academic scholarship for all 4 years which is basically me winning the lottery (thanks to him). Graduates in June. Youngest went to college for 1 term and decided he'd rather learn a trade. He's now an electrician apprentice and loving every minute of it. No way in hell I could write a check to hole. My kids know that if they go there, they are on their own. A little too hardcore? Maybe, but I'm good with it. Raise em right

My mom, the OSU grad, told me not to expect financial help if I went there. No joke, that was the rule.

I wonder if some sort of a buyout makes sense, in the same way that a buyout for coaches is laid out. Why not? If the student-athletes are no longer "amateur" status, then they should be on some sort of a contract.

Oh how I wish that were true. First son took 5 years. Second, well, let's just say that when/if he graduates next spring, I'm going to get plastered! Of course, but it will have been more than a decade of tuition to OSU when I'm finally free.

Son #1 just finished at OSU last year - took 3.5 years to get BS/CS + BS/Finance, only wrote a check his last term thanks to his 529 (created by my parents when he was born) . He has grown wings and flown into the fintech world. Son #2 on the 5-6 year path at OSU in engineering, but still has plenty in his 529. Helps we live ~8 blocks from campus and they only have to pay tuition and had scholarships/work part time. I would be drinking heavily or already dead if I had been writing checks these last 6 years for sure! Go (present and future) Beavers!

I just read the article...well, skimmed enough of it to make my stomach sick.
This new normal has to take one more step and remove the pretense that these teams have anything to do with the university at all. It's just wrong on too many levels.

My first boy started off in engineering on the advice of his girlfriend's father. Suffered. Hated it. Was afraid to switch majors. Wasted a year. He switched to premed and now is at OHSU finishing up his studies. Son number two was less mature. Thought he had to live up to his brother, so he chose nuclear engineering. He liked his nuc classes but other classes dragged him down. A couple of terms along the way, he bailed on the term. Grrr. Lots of discussions and fighting along the way. FINALLY, he switched to Forestry and has found his place. He told me, "Dad, all my classmates have dogs!" (He's a dog-person.) My eldest became an RA for 3 years. s%#tty job, but nice perks. My youngest tried twice, but it wasn't really for him. These days, he just commutes in with my wife. Neither of them had my experience at OSU, or so it seems. And neither has the love for the school that I had. Too bad. OSU was pivotal in my development...as was Woodstock's, Suds, and the Beanery. (I still drink my coffee from a 30 year old Beanery mug.)

The Dam Nation guy literally said he received the full Q1 $100k. $92k plus the $8k they paid to the dealership for the rest of what he owed on the car.

He actually didn't... no #s are given out or will be. It's not how the collective operates. Recieved a quarterly payment... $400k was never on the table. Nice they let you out again. A weekly thing or just have access to a computer at times?

A weekly thing or just have access to a computer at times? There's stupid, there's ignorant, and then there's your amazing combination of both. "Martinez received a $92,000 payment before the close of business on March 19 of this year. And “that’s not a problem,” the running back told me on Thursday. The shortage comes with a back story. Kiefer Nissan informed OSU’s NIL collective earlier this year that Martinez still owed $8,000 on the down payment of the Charger. Dam Nation Collective agreed to send a check to the dealership in March to cover the balance." www.johncanzano.com/p/canzano-damien-martinez-drama-is“We will be fine,” a university staff member said. Maybe the school’s NIL collective will go shopping in the portal itself. After all, there’s now a spare $100,000 available in the quarterly budget." All you do is make s%#t up, it's f%#*ing pathetic. You're an idiot and a coward. The worst type of liar is the one who lies to himself.
