Oregon is the Beaver State. But, why is it the Beaver State? Because Beavers were plentiful here, because they were easy to kill, and because they made nice hats. You do not see teams named the Fighting Raccoons. I am 100% on board with you, LV. Beaver is an ugly and timid animal that now has a very unfavorable slang usage. IMHO, the Beavers should be replaced. With the discovery of a Mammoth underneath the North End Zone, I advocate that Oregon State would pivot from a terrible mascot to the Oregon State Mammoths. 100% improvement from the Beavers IMO and one that actually fits with the University. I've already worked out what the team could put on the 50-yard line to the left. It "fits" the university because we found a mammoth bone or two??? GAWD... tell me this is a tongue firmly in check post! You are sold that a Beaver is the mascot and that is non-negotiable? I am very much of the opinion that few things are non-negotiable. If we can blow up history to lay the foundation for something better, I am all for placing the dynamite myself. The Christmas displays were up at Target the weekend before Halloween. If your product is not ahead of its time, it is behind the times. I feel like the Beaver mascot is antiquated and should be replaced. A lot of people talk about ways to improve on the Oregon State brand. I tell you that no matter how successful the Oregon State team is, the Beaver name will always be weighing down Oregon State's athletic and marketing prospects. And, if Oregon State is successful, it is in spite of the Beaver mascot and not because of it. So, I personally am always on the lookout to pivot the team name to a different and better name. Mammoth is good. Distinctive, plus it "'fits'...because we found a mammoth bone or two." Not only did we find it on campus, though. It was in the North End Zone. And I still would like to have some sort of archaeological display somewhere near the university to capitalize on the huge amount of free publicity that the university received from this happenstance discovery.

LOL no s%#t, and I really wouldn't want one with that vermin on it. Oh man.. we're dangerously close to someone giving us a 10 paragraph season by season breakdown of free State Farm hat color and quality under CGA vs MR. Well obviously, MR > CGA. Or is it CGA > MR. It's funny Beaver fan gets so butthurt that another doesn't care for any beaver on their gear. The funny thing about it is 95% of the successful Duck marketing blitz starting around 2007 or 2008 had gear with no Duck at all on it. No Donald, no Angry, no Robo, no whatever it is they call that thing they are using now, just a toilet bowl, or the word Oregon or Ducks. In fact, if you go to the bookstore right now, you'd see at least half the stuff they sell still has no Duck on it. Maybe, just maybe, their marketing department figured out they could sell a ton more product if they lose the weird looking goofy animal. Now that I think about it, I can't recall ever seeing any of my dozen or so close Duck friends wear anything with a Duck on it. Then again, everyone knows the Nike Swoosh IS a a symbol for a duck, so maybe that is a bad analogy.

Disney will let them wear it on their sports uniforms only, Disney will let them have puddles, but Disney will not let them sell merchandise with the duck on it.

"Extinct" is not a word or concept I want associated with my university. Beavers are: Intelligent Industrious Ambitious Adaptable Prolific Unstoppable Multi-modal Socially Organized Essentially, nature's WINNERS. Yes, I identify with them strongly A perfect mascot for the 21st century

LOL no s%#t, and I really wouldn't want one with that vermin on it. Oh man.. we're dangerously close to someone giving us a 10 paragraph season by season breakdown of free State Farm hat color and quality under CGA vs MR. This is getting ridiculous, people. There is NOTHING wrong with putting our logo on yellow hats! Why on earth would we want to let wh0regon claim that color? We need to get IN on that action, not perpetually shun it. The color yellow is associated with happiness and joy. What could give a tried and true Beaver fan more happiness or joy than the Beavers doing well? Psychology has proven that looking at the color yellow increases mental positivity, production, and good fortune. Isn't this what we WANT? Let's stop being so petty. If wh0regon can wear orange duck legs on their uniforms, we can use the yellow hats!! Yellow is also very similar to gold, which is symbolic of wealth. Don't we wish we had a big donor like Uncle Phil? Don't we want to be attracting wealth our direction? Let's stop this pettiness. I think they should change the next home game to WEAR YELLOW!!!

Ohio State's mascot is a literal nut, and I don't think that is holding them back.

Ohio State's mascot is a literal nut, and I don't think that is holding them back. Brutus is also on approximately 1 billionth of their merchandise. Everything either has a giant Ohio State or a giant red O on it. Plus, they start in a much larger state and have pretty much locked that state down. They have a much better history and a much larger stadium. Much more money to start with. Oregon State starts in a hole to begin with, and then you tether the Beaver to the team. That is tough. I have talked trash to Ohio State fans (in jest......mostly), but they will tell you that even a Buckeye is better than a Beaver. My focus with Ohio State fans is that Oregon State University is the original OSU. (Oregon State founded in 1868. Ohio State founded in 1870.) And Oregon State is a Land, Sea, Space, and Sun Grant University. Most Ohio State fans, though, are just happy that I am not an Oregon fan, so............

As are a wolverine, a bear, a tree, an elephant, a blue devil, a demon deacon, a fighting illini, a scarlet knight, and an aggie, whatever that is. Sometimes I even forget Auburn University's mascot is a tiger.

Actually we were OAC not OSU in 1868. We didn't go from OAC to OSU either. We were OSC.
Seems we get our panties in a wad over nothing.
