Not that we deserved much better the way we didn't show up for the first 15 minutes.....but the refs were even bad for what were normally subjected to lol. Right down to that obvious inbound violation w 10 seconds left when we cut it to 6. So many bad calls that even the announcers pointed out several calls they didn't agree with

I think Tinkle and Thompson should be the starter for next game. They are ready by now. Need to win as many games as possible for chance to go to the dance. Tonight was very disappointed game so coach may want more minutes out of those freshmen.

Tonight was very disappointed game so coach may want more minutes out of those freshmen. Thompson is the key. We need a instant scorer type, but not sure he's up to starters minutes and the physical part of play. Tinkle definitely had some flashes of late, on both ends of the spectrum... of both what he can become and how out of control/unfocused he can be. Either way we have to play some inferior guys for depth. Starter or bench we have guys who are not playing close to what they did last year and not providing leadship. This is not a "dance" team... the rpi gurus seem to think it's significant. After 12/13 games it means squat. This is one game, but the CW was not the norm for this team. It's the best have they've played by far. The inconsistent D, not scoring in stretches, giving up offensive boards in bunches for 2nd 3rd 4th opportunities has been. I love WT though. His post game "shame on us for not showing up to battle" was awesome. No excuses, applauds Stanford, says we need to grow/man up. We're closer, but still a recruiting class or two away.

Maybe we found some at the end tonight. WT has so many good things that roll out of his mouth. I liked his "They wood shedded us tonight" The refs were horrible (Bill Walton) Looked like a shot clock violation they missed. and the inbound thing at the end was brutal. They never went to the monitor to look. One possesion they could bang and next time down a bump 30 feet from the basket was a foul.

If I'm not mistaken it's the same crew that tried to hose us at FWC vs Tulsa?

Very disappointing game. Came out flat against a team we have to beat at home to have any chance for the dance. I could understand if this was a road game how this could happen, but a home game with a decent Wednesday night crowd is totally unacceptable. I have one coaching comment and that is you really can't play your entire bench in the first half and expect any combination to find any rhythm. Players were going in and out like a fire drill, Coach Tinkle needs to settle into a 8 or 9 player rotation and stick with it. To disruptive to game flow to go deeper unless game is decided. The bottom 5 players need to accept that role. I'm also not a big fan of the 1-3-1 zone gives to many open looks from 3 pt line and gives us terrible block outs for rebounds. Stanford killed us on the offensive boards. Let's hope this was just a case of a young team not mentally prepared and that it is a one game let down. If not you can forget any meaningful post season action.( ncaa- nit) the schedule is only going to get tougher not easier. I still have faith but coach please cut down your rotation of players. It's really tough on guys like Duvivier, shaftenar, Morris-walker, to play first 2-3 minutes then sit for 10 to 15. Go Beavs beat the Bears!

I didn't find the erratic rotation being a significant problem for the loss, but rather missing 13 FTs (including 4-10 from our star) and having a -17 (!) rebounding margin. While the 1-3-1 clearly is directly related to the rebounding problem, I still have a tough time blaming it that much when 2/3rds of our rebounds were collected by guards. Our bigs just don't seem to have any sort of instincts at all for the art of rebounding.

Re: the rotation.. My take is that he was trying to find 5 guys who wanted to rebound and guard someone and send a message to the guys who were playing the role of statue, waiting for the ball to fall directly into their hands 12 feet from the hoop. They beat us to nearly every 50/50 ball.

We look awful so far....wow. Starting to think Duvivier shouldn't see the floor...he is out of sync, and a turn over machine. Yikes. Amazing how out of sorts we look. Watched a lot of beaver basketball finally last night. I shouldn't have. In agreement. What in wild, wild, world of sports is going on there starting Duvivier?! The frosh have to start.

This Game really Points out the Past, Soft Play, Noted by the rebounding effort. Not being ready again more the older guys. The Present with the Youth and the effort more than execution really impressed me. Sad Payton missed 6 free throws. I didn't care for officiating, but there is never any excuse to be handled like we were. It was not as close as the score indicates. I also see the Coaches recruiting guys who will grow. I would think we'll be a lot better in 2 years and a little better as we find out who wants to grow rather than who just wants to kind of finish up. The minutes will tell us.

Two guys Tinkle didn't close was Boucher (hole) and Cameron Oliver (CR recruit that switched to Nevada a month after WT was hired). Oliver is averaging 6.3 RPG as a frosh, and Boucher is at 8.3 RPG, making him a top-tier rebounder at the collegiate level. Tres at 4.9 RPG is the highest we have for bigs. Bottom line, WT hasn't been successful at bringing in guys that are actually really good at rebounding (I have no idea if he actually went after getting Oliver back, I'm guessing not - but he tried for Boucher).
I know some folks thing rebounding is about boxing out and effort, but it's a lot more than that - it's also about understanding physics and probability around missed shots, timing, and athleticism.

" Bottom line, WT hasn't been successful at bringing in guys that are actually really good at rebounding "
Kind of a harsh assessment given that he's only had one recruiting class.

I think the reason rebounding hasn't been much of an issue until last night's debacle on the boards, was because we aren't in that 1-3-1 zone very often and Stanford IS a good rebounding team. If we weren't playing zone so much, it wouldn't have been as bad imho. Improvement is needed though
