Why? I don't get what the obsession is with this guy. He's failing at his job. Why do "we" care?

He’s a realistic candidate for the job whether you like it or not!

Hmmmmm... we'd consider hiring a guy who without provocation blurted out receiving multiple death threats, but never reported them to anyone. Then when called on it clammed up. He had no proof it ever happened or reasons he never mentioned it to his admin or the police.
Ya... that's our guy. Seems we were lucky enough to just rid ourselves of a chronic BSer who obviously had let the stress of the job overwhelm him.

Thanks Rocky Beav...some of you actually want Jake Spavital from WVU...just because he’s young doesn’t make a him a good coach...he was a poor OC at TAMU...at least McElwain has had some success as a HC and not an OC which Spav is and has had little success!

My initial thought was to pass due to the parallels between he and Andersen. There's been some discussion of this tendency to prefer an "opposite" approach to replacing coaches who departed under less than great circumstances. Nebraska replacing the prick Pellini with possibly the nicest man in coaching is a prime example.
So yeah, the parallels are unsettling. But if McElwain is seriously a candidate, I think it would be foolish to dismiss him without taking a hard look. Outside of Tedford he may have the best resume of anyone mentioned.

Or as I like to call him, More Kilometers.

And... his 4.3 mil salary is a little too much if he expects anything close to that. Other than my aforementioned similarities to GA's personality if he was interested in OSU for a 'low ball' contract of $1.5-1.8 mil with incentives and a large buyout if he bolts. I assume if he is being bought out he will not need the $ and isn't required to find an equal paying job. Getting a guy like that on the rebound, ready to prove himself again, and on the cheap while UF is footing half the "bill" could be the best thing OSU could hope for... unless Tedford would come for under $2 mil with incentives. PS- Cal buddy says Baldwin will leave for any job equal to an OC position/asst HC. He and his family hate the crowded/expensive Bay area. So... older HC like Tedford with up and coming OC/asst HC/HC in waiting might be a very attractive option! Not sure if Tedford is aware of Baldwin and if their ideas would meld?

That sound's AWESOME!
Although for the very reason you mention don't see a lot of similarities between offenses and Tedford is running his.
So instead of an up and comer young OC, how bout an old grizzled vet, like Mike Riley.

That would ruffle some feathers! All I say to that is... we could do much worse! But, MR is going to ride into the sunset a multi millionaire... then donate 7 figures to the Reser renovation. And, of course be honored at a future halftime with the field named after him. 😉

"After failing to find any evidence to substantiate claims made by McElwain this week that his family and players received death threats, Florida administrators have worked to see if McElwain's allegations were enough to relieve the university from paying McElwain's full buyout of $12.9 million if he were to be fired." If he made it up, can that please kill any potential interest in him?
