I am not impressed at all by some of the names that have been popping up; Neuheisel, Mclewain, even Baldwin. I really hope this hire is meant to be someone who could start off strong, not only from day one, but be longterm. I know, I've said myself, coaching is a revolving door business and there are no promises on how long anyone stays but to me, those previously mentioned and even Coach Hall, are all flash in the pan hires. Hall would be more of an emotional hire which is not thinking long term. Sure we've had a few recruits jump on the ship but think quality over quantity. No offense to those young men but a few of them are in state and/or kids with one or two offers.
We can do better in the search for a HC in my opinion!
Go Beavs!

Does anyone think we could pull an existing HC from a P5 school like last time? If not, the pool becomes out of work guys or up and comer coordinators and small school head coaches. Out of the second pool, 9er checks a lot of boxes for me. OSU guy, who spent his career rubbing shoulders with respected head coaches. (Riley, saint Dennis, Petersen) If not now, when?

Flash in the pan, we certainly don't want that.

Dude has won a National Championship (through a real playoff no less) and won his league 5 times. The dude has 23 years of coaching experience. over 10 as a HC. a 95-35 record. how the f%#* is that "flash in the pan"?

Didn't want any flash in the pans. Then you've got posters going on about the need to identify the next Chip Kelly, while at the same time poo-pooing Baldwin. He's got about as solid of credentials as anyone out there.

That what my comment, I probably shouldn't of quoted you.

Yeah, it's my opinion. With all fairness to Baldwin, he hasn't really proven anything as a Head Coach of an FBS team and he's not blowing the doors off as a coordinator in his first season but he has won in FCS (Not as an FBS HC). Yet my biggest concern with Baldwin is what assistant coaches he would hire and recruiting. No doubt the guy has won where he was (hasn't really been any other places besides EWU has he?) but that's FCS. It takes more to build an entire program than just being a bright offensive mind at the FCS level. The rest of the guys that I mentioned are not guys that I feel would help the program right away and/or in the long run.
No on Chip Kelly as well. Personal experience, there is a reason why the last couple of places he has been, he has not gotten along with people in the organization. The guy has no personal or social skills whatsoever! Arrogant as hell too!
I like Tedford a lot but understand if we missed our opportunity with him in the last go 'round. Norvell seems intriguing . A guy that I also think is the most risky of these 3 but could have a lot of upside is Jeff Brohm. But, it ain't up to me!
Either way, whoever gets hired, half this board is going to hate the hire while the other half defends it at all costs (my prediction). I'm behind whoever they hire, as I was when they hired Andersen for the first couple of years and up until early this season. I won't watch triple option football though!
Again, my takes! As relevant and probably as realistic as anyone else at this point so.....
Go Beavs!

Tedford concerns me for two reasons: previous health concerns and the way his tenure ended at Cal. He seemed to have a downward slide, similar to Riley. His Fresno team is much improved this year, but lost a lowly UNLV team and has played an extremely weak schedule. Norvell would be my first choice, with Les Miles or Baldwin being next. Les, because of his recruiting prowess and the fact he could pull in some quality assistants. Fundraising would jump a bit, IMO. Baldwin has HC experience. I’ve seen his EWU teams in person at least 5 times. The dude knows quarterbacks. Defense? He better have a great coordinator ready. His teams were mentally tough, the offense was dynamic. He has West Coast ties, raised in Cali, played/coached in WA. His offense at Cal is mediocre at best this year, but there are some “excuses” for this: lost starting RB and top WR early this season, first year system. He hasn’t coached at a P5, but he has all the other qualifications I would look for. Plus, he is only 45 years old. From what I’ve read, he and his family may love Corvallis and stick around for the long term, should he have success. If he survived Cheney for 10+ years... I wonder if Nevada is regretting turning him down after the year they’ve been having...

I'm amazed at how many people judge Baldwin on seven or eight games worth of work at this level. He's coached a bunch of top level QBs and it's been said it takes a year and a half to learn his offense. Well, a year and a half beats the heck out of the 3 it took most QBs to learn Riley's offense, and it beats the last two and a half years here. WHOEVER comes in as head coach is very likely dealing with installing a new offense with a QB who has no experience at this level, zip, nada. The last QB Baldwin coached at EWU passed for 5160 yards in his first season as a starter under Beau... there's a possibility he could be a graduate transfer this next year. Think about it.
