Name who you think would be the most disastrous hire possible - with the proviso that it must be a plausible hire. That is, someone mentioned as a candidate by serious media outlets, an assistant coach or lower-level head coach who could be expected to move, an NFL coach with college interest, etc.. To prevent excessive scab-picking, Mike Riley is not up for consideration in this category.
My personal top three:
1. Rick Newweasel. Guaranteed to provide four years of steadily declining results, followed by NCAA sanctions. Plus, I'd feel like I needed a shower every time I heard him talk. 2. Bo Pelini. Even Bo Pelini doesn't know enough cuss words to describe how raunchily Bo Pelini treats the people around him. 3. June Jones. This ship has sailed. He's 64, you know, and I think he's too damn tired to coach again. Hawaii wore him down and SMU finished him off.

Riley, it would make OSU look like the spouse who keeps taking their cheating partner back over and over... "I can't break up with him Becky, my CD's are still in his truck!"

1. Pellini-you gotta be a world class jackass not to get hired somewhere with his record. 2. New Weasel-should stick to TV which he's good at. If he couldn't win at his alma mater, you really think he's going to win here? 3. McElwain-might have caught the Pellini virus-seems to have become a very easy to fire jerk. Maybe he'll rehab, I really dont want it to be here. 4. Any triple option coach. I really don't want to watch that even if we win more. Makes soccer look really good.

Not saying I disagree with the person, but how can anyone "Guaranteed to provide four years of steadily declining results" with where we are starting from? Can we go into negative wins? Take away the half finished stadium? I don't know, just seems the worst case scenario is staying at the level we are at for say...25 more years or so.

You know . . . your response made me look up his stats. Colorado: 10-2/10-2/5-6/8-4, UW 7-5/11-1/8-4/7-6 UCLA 4-7/7-6/4-8/6-7. In the first two, he had initial success followed by decline and sanctions. In the third, he never had any real success. So I really can't say he guarantees decline. In some cases he just solidifies the suck.

To be honest there Is so much speculation on who is good or bad for our program and my opinion is that I could care less about age. I want anyone willing to come to Corvallis and finally put in place a foundation that allows this program to establish an identity of some kind and that can be handed off to the next in line. I want a coach that has a proven record of installing not only a system of X's and O's, but someone who creates a swagger in the locker room. Anyone who is willing to truly take on this challenge will have my support out of the gate. I will reserve judging the choice made by search firm and AD until I hear how the kids and administration feel after spring ball. Being a part of 3 generations of OSU alum, I just want us to finally have an identity that has legs. Pettibone was painful, Erickson was inspiring, Riley had moments and GA was a train wreck. I am hopeful that the Beav Community will jump on board who ever the choice is and give that candidate every opportunity to steer this ship onto the correct course...

My uneducated thought on Kiffen is that he may be ok. He's 42 now. I'm thinking he may have figured out what's important and what is not important. He and Layla have been split up/(getting) divorced now for two years. Florida Atlantic may win CUSA this year. I follow him mostly out of curiosity and don't have a strong opinion. But he does have a fascinating trajectory of his life and career. For what it's worth, I'm also wondering where Sarkisian is at in his personal life.

Mike Riley and its not even close. If they even call him for any purpose after Nebraska fires him and I hear about it, I am out.

I think Sarkisian and Kiffen both potentially have good HC careers ahead.
I'd avoid trouble on our hire: Chip Kelly, McElwain, Neuheisel (even though I kinda like him) Pellini all fit in that category in my opinion. I like Riley, but his time (as well as Erickson's) has past. I still think Jonathan Smith needs to get in some head coaching at a smaller school before jumping to this level.
