While I believe that Beau Baldwin is an excellent candidate, I also believe there is a better candidate for Oregon State who has an even better record than Coach Baldwin and has a system of both hard nosed defense and a punishing offense that would fit Oregon State like a glove.
That candidate would be Coach Craig Bohl of Wyoming(previously head coach at North Dakota State).
I would appreciate comments pro and con about Coach Bohl.
P.S. I have lived in Spokane for the past several years and have watched many of Coach Baldwin's games. He is an excellent offensive coach but his defenses have been for the most part not very good. Again, I believe he is a good choice. However I think Coach Bohl would be a better choice.

You can't blame me for trying on the triple option! However, I have learned my lesson and will say no more about it.
I do think that Coach Bohl has a lot to offer and would appreciate some serious dialog on the possibility of his becoming the Beavs new head coach.

Because there is a large contingent on this board who say that Beau Baldwin is the answer we are looking for. I am semi-sort of in that camp. Why are people fired up about Baldwin? Because he has a long track record of success at the 1-AA/FCS level. The Baldwin supporters are of the belief that that success will translate into excellence at the Pac 12 level.
So why not Bohl? Bohl has even better FCS success than Baldwin, as Bohl coached the North Dakota State Bison to three consecutive FCS titles (2011-2013), which included Carson Wentz' freshman and sophomore campaigns. ND State also had good years in 2006 and 2007 (10-1 both years) but were ineligible for the playoffs in FCS (1AA at the time) because they were serving a four probation period form the 1AA playoffs because they had moved up to 1AA from D II.
Bohl now coaches at Wyoming, where he continued Wyoming's unimpressive run for his first two years (4-8/2-6, 2-10/2-6) but then turned it around in year 3 to reach 8-6/6-2 in the MWC, including a win over Boise St. That was good enough to tie for the MWC title and send them to the Poinsettia Bowl, where they lost to BYU in a tight game. This year Wyoming stands at 6-3/4-1 including a wood-shredding loss at the hands of the hated uo yucks (in Wyoming) when uo had their starting QB. There other two losses were against at Boise St. (24-14) and at Iowa (24-3). Wyoming has a pretty good QB.
Wyoming isn't exactly college football Mecca and I suspect it is fairly difficult to recruit there. Plus, the MWC is a weak conference at this point in time and therefore I cannot cite a good win for the Cowboys this year.
Bohl (59) is older than Baldwin (45), but I think he has at least as good, if not better, qualifications. I think Bohl is not a bad choice at all, especially in light of the fact that many people think that Baldwin is a viable candidate.

Next. His star qb made DG look like Baker Mayfield.

I love Bohl but I'm not sure another old white dude is going to make the splash we want.

When you say "splash" how are you defining that? I do not think OSU can risk striking out on this pick, or we may easily end up in another "dark ages" period (i.e. Avezano, Fertig, etc).
Oregon State successful football I do not believe will ever be based on the latest fad thing going on in football (various uniform combinations, 5 star recruits from Florida and Texas, etc., etc.)
A fundamental foundation of quality line play (offensive and defensive) coupled with a physical aggressive defense, and an offensive system that is unique enough that it is difficult for other teams to prepare for on an a one week basis.

I'm starting to lean harder on the Les Miles bandwagon. I think Les could have some of the St. Dennis magic, he has a long list of contacts that he could use to assemble an excellent staff, and like St. Dennis, I have the feeling that CLM would demand support.
My second choice is Wilcox, who has reportedly expressed interest in the opening at OSU - apparently Cal is not the most attractive position when viewed up close and personal.

I keep hearing rumors, etc. about how the OSU financial situation for football and in general has lead to friction between the last two coaches (Riley, Andersen) and the powers(President, etc.) at OSU.
Maybe this is a story that Mr. Moran should delve into. If there is truth to this, it could be seriously handicapping the quality of coaches OSU is able to attract. To use some of your words, perhaps "OSU" is not the most attractive position when viewed up close and personal.

You must also be new to Oregon St athletics if you don't know about the changes in financial commitment made by Pres Ray post Riley. It's been well documented, hashed, and re-hashed.

I just think he is looking for a bigger pond. I found this. sports.yahoo.com/hire-les-miles-eager-coach-will-sec-school-call-202519077.html

How do you know that's the buyout that would be owed to the school if he were to leave rather than the buyout that would be owed to him if the school fires him? The latter sounds more likely. Also, no school is going to pay Wyoming $5M plus for...whats his name again? Why does the latter sound more likely? Typically coaches get their entire contract if they are fired and owe a buyout if they leave early. It'd be atypical if his contract wasn't fully guaranteed with a buyout if he leaves.

I'd be clicking my heals with joy. Unfortunately, I don't think Les's ego would let him come to Corvallis. Enough money is probably there but, it's probably tougher to move from the deep South than it is to the deep South. It's just "different" down there. It would for sure be bigger news than Dennis was, or the Weasel would be. I just don't see it happening. I'm pretty sure he would also like to match up with LSU again. Everyone likes to stomp on an old employer who done you wrong. Kind of like Marrying a woman that's prettier than your X. days o

Excellent and very funny comment! I have been a regular for only a few weeks and while I truly enjoy the site, I have been somewhat shocked by the angry reactions and abuse that often spews out when different viewpoints are expressed.
Lighten up people, this is supposed to be fun!
When I dared to suggest that triple option football might be the way to go for the new coach, from the reactions on the site, you would have thought I was suggesting changing our team's name from Beavers to Ducklings!
