Now I wonder which two P12 coaches approached MR about joining their staff.
Shaw, Edwards, CK would be my top guesses. Although I think Whittingham has been losing staff and has already shown through his hiring of DE a few years back a willingness to bring in someone who can help and not feel threatened by it. I guess Peterson did the same with Tedford so....dang it I'm really curious now.

"I told Jonathan to hire the best people he can and plug me in wherever he wants to," Riley said. "I could do the secondary — that's where I spent half my career. I could coach quarterbacks, running backs, receivers, tight ends. … I'll do whatever Jonathan wants me to do." That doesn't sound like a guy scheming to be a shadow head coach. It might mean Hall is out of a job though...

The coaches here know him best.

Bigger takeaway from the article for me was names he didn't mention as under consideration for jobs. No Heyward for instance. That could simply be because his contract with the Ducks prevents him from talking to OSU till after the Bowl but interesting nonetheless. Also no Hall mention so can we read that as him being out of a job?
I still think Hall could be a fit. Several of our commits are guys he was the primary recruiter of. Hall could be an asset in some role you would think.

Wouldn't surprise if one was from Harbaugh, MR beat Harbaugh out in more than a few recruiting battles.

I can see it that way as well. Riley has value to any staff, and the familiarity he has of the people and the area should help with the transition. I think we can compare this to Riley bringing Jay Locey on board in much the same capacity. Water balloons and bowling (the indoor alley kind) may not be too far away, but please park the "Hip Hip Hooray".

Competent QB play and coaching is coming back to Corvallis! It feels as if we have been a boat adrift the past few years in terms of offensive identity and execution. CJS and AHCMR are just what the Dr. ordered.

Hip Hip Hooray should be a part of this program going forward, from now until the end of time. I mean, every school has their slightly hokey traditions. Wisconsin has a cheer that goes U Rah Rah or something like that. Minnesota has been chanting Ski U Mah for over a hundred years. I loved it when we had Hip Hip Hooray embroidered on the collar of jerseys and the slogan on socks. OWN it. I mean, you'd rather have big boy pants and war daddies and living in the hard? Because those were so awesome.

Be creative and put it on the pants... LOL... 'hip' on each side... "hooray" across the top of the back!

Ain't nobody in that room that thinks it is dumb, then and there. This is college. embrace the silly. It is part of the charm.

I think my favorite was: "Riley has been watching video the past two days in Corvallis with Michalczik and Lindgren, "and I'm really, really impressed," he said. "Jonathan got a couple of good ones there." I love that. It gets away from all the "politics" of these coaching staff choices and brings it home that these guys are already working together. Can you imagine being a fly on the wall as coaches with this much combined experience break down film. I'd love it. As much as I wish the announcement of Riley on the staff was not immediately followed by some fans going negative and effectively withdrawing their belief and support for JS already, I have to accept that I can do nothing about folks who choose to react like that. Personally, I wasn't sure what to think of the announcement but I had to trust JS to make good choices. Now, picturing Riley already sitting with offensive coaches and working together has me fired up. So much experience and talent on this staff already! Go Beavs! Mike '84

I thought it was interesting they talked about Wyoming's DC never heard that before This was his first year as Wyoming's DC and they made huge improvements from last year which was about par for them over the past 5 years. Was DC of NDSU's national championship team, coached most recently in the nfl with Jacksonville. Looks like a solid candidate.
