What a treat to watch. And not just because it's OSU beating Notre Dame. It's our new HC out there as the winning QB. He's not the tallest, doesn't have the strongest arm, isn't fast, but he just keeps making plays. Calm and collected and making plays. Add to that that he's leading a dominant team made up players brought in by Riley and players brought in by Erickson, both coaches who have shown that OSU Football can do much more than just compete in this conference, and both with a great relationship with Smith even still, and it just all brings good feelings out.
I don't know if Jonathan Smith can be a successful head coach or not but all the signs are there to make it easy to believe he can. Watching him out there on that Fiesta Bowl field, running around, making plays, and knowing that he's back with our team again just feels magical. A few more coaches brought in, some early signees, and some momentum for more commits in the weeks to follow will be the start of something special we hope.
And all of that came out of just seeing number 9 on the field in the Fiesta Bowl. 😀
Go Beavs! Mike '84

Bob Grim sounded funny.
The officiating was absolutely atrocious. A Big East crew that definitely had an agenda against DE.

That whole game is a blur in my memory - we got there at 9AM to start the festivities. Ouch. I vividly recall ND fans being shell shocked. They obviously didn't know anything about the Beavs. That team would have beat damn near any team in front of them that day. D was soooo fast. Would have loved to see them face a better opponent than ND.

Mike '84 Players who possess superior athleticism and size during their playing days seem much less likely to make good coaches. I'm sure there are exceptions. Players with limited athleticism, speed, strength, and size who still found success as players generally make for better coaches. They actually had to learn the game, find advantages through technique, work harder, improvise, involve and rely upon teammates more, and learn to be more resourceful out of necessity. They also needed a special fire, mentality to succeed as players and that can be a great asset as a coach. Meyers, Saban, Petersen, Kerr, Bird, and coach K come to mind.

At least half of those penalties (PIs, PFs, Un. con.) were bogus. The DOG on Housh for supposedly giving a fair-catch signal and then running was ridiculous. Then there was a shoving match where we got two PFs but ND got none.
Total hose job. We were just so much better than them that not even the penalties hurt us.

Pretty incredible that you totally dominate another team and end up with more penalty yards than their offense for the game.

Never forgive Sean McDonut, never forget!

Gave us a rash of s%#t as we found our seats, condescending would be an understatement. It was basically "how cute - you Beaver fans are here at a bowl game up against the greatest program in the universe." Anyhow, the best part was just exchanging those grins and nods across the way with the couple of other Beaver fans in my section. Then before you knew it, the place cleared out and we had all kinds of room to stretch out. Leaving so soon? if you guys can score 35 points in the next couple minutes, you're right back in it!

Yea... our experience was much the same.... ND fans dishing talk before game... even at hotel and going out prior ..... and they all disappeared afterward.... but heh.... as I say.... “they had a helluva band”.....
I would agree that at that time.... we would have beaten ANYONE. And our D was that difference. The D line. RECRUIT TO THE D LINE !........
One thing....no, Niner was not big. No, he was not fast. But he DID have a good arm.
