Just don't go read the comments in OLive, especially from the Duck fans. They just have no clue.

Can't you take a g.d. joke Rainbows? I have to assume Rolovitch was making a bit of a joke of it himself. Pretty big screwup on the Beav's oart.

Secondary violation, no competitive advantage, will get a letter put on file. Hawaii will rue this stunt.

This is the way the world works these days. Got a beef? Take it to TWITTER! If the president of the United States is going to casually discuss nuclear proliferation on Twitter, we shouldn't be surprised when a football coach casually discusses potential recruiting infractions by another school.

And, at a school of little regard regressing badly his 2nd year (7-7 to 3-9... 4-4/1-7 in league) its about the only way he can be 'seen'. Hope he's as "witty" when this feed comes to light before we play them.

He's also probably more than a little bent about the fact that we took two of his coaches and what may well be his best offensive lineman in the off-season...

Okay so we took two of his coaches, it seems very interesting to me that neither of them has come out and said anything when they had all the contact information necessary to make sure that their former players got invites to our spring game. It just gets curiouser and curiouser

I was turkey hunting, so I missed this drama.
My view of this drama is:
OSU: Pretty stupid screw up OSU, get your crap together.
Hawaii: lighten up, this is bush league as hell.
It should be noted Hawaii has not liked us for years. We recruited the Islands hard for years with Riley, We stole Coach Cavenaugh from them, and have a nice long history of sniping some very solid players out from them.

The more I think about it, what little thought I have given to it, it sounds like a bad attempt at a joke that has backfired on the university.

Yep, I took it as a joke on Rolovitch's part with a little bit of a burn thrown in... but OSU deserved it, clearly a violation no matter how minor some here think it is. If someone coming up on our schedule sent recruiting propaganda to our players the board would be buzzing bigtime... there'd probably be calls to go after the opposing coaches.

The difference would be (I think) in how it would be handled. Privately, between coaching staffs, minus the Twitter snark.
It's a violation. No one denies that. But there are intentional violations, and unintentional ones. This has to be an unintentional one, considering how visible it was. Teams trying to gain a competitive advantage just don't do what we did.
And OSU fans are not the only ones who deem in minor. It is a secondary violation, which, by the NCAA's own definition, is minor.

As I said, it was a bad attempt, a dumb stunt, but I bet it's not the first time it's been done, just not wise to do this in with the existence of the twitterverse and 24-7 jockstrap coverage.

Three pages into this thread and not one single answer to the actual important questions.
How many of the invitees RSVP'd?
How many wanted to come?
How much press is Beaver Football getting in the Honolulu Star as a result of all this?

How much press is Beaver Football getting in the Honolulu Star as a result of all this? One of the things I enjoyed about the old bf.c was that it was part of a network that frequently drew interaction with opposing fans. Right now, I couldn't be happier that Bennyshouse is not part of a network. I think I might lose my mind if I had to deal with a whole year of "Scab Riley" comments.
