'98 squad (cheating with 21 years) because of the hope they brought, because of the huge shift in expectations, and because we all saw a fun, competent offense for the first time in decades. of course, double OT win in the civil war is one of the most memorial games in OSU history. Not just the Simonton scamper to win, but a game full of clutch players, in particularly Tim Alexander taking a duck DB for about a 10 yard ride to score late in the game. a guy that would not be stopped.
2000 team, obvious reasons
2006 squad for winning 10 games and going 8-1 after starting off 2-3 and dealing with the total asshats with the Can Riley sign in the stadium, and with some s%#tbird wanna be Canzano at the Barometer repeatedly taking shots at Moore. That whole team rose up, gave a lot of haters a big ol' middle finger. That downhill running play action offense was peak Riley-ball and a thing of beauty. That defense wasn't as great as a few years down the road (2008), but it took no s%#t from anybody. It was a great, likable, fun to watch squad.
All the teams from 2006-2009 were great, and honestly I think the true Golden era of OSU football, to me. 2000 team was amazing and great because of what it achieved and who was on the team... but I really 2006-2009 was a era that we had so much traction and energy. we really were building what everybody wanted.
I am not going to dwell on way it went off the rails, but I will just say that stretch is my favorite stretch of OSU football, by a mile.
2012 team was a good one. putter out at the end, and we have had some debates about the decision making in that Washington game... but 2012 team, I hope, is a more recent example of zeros to heros we can lean to. 3 wins to 9 wins in one season. Heck, if we could do it then we can do it now.
Totally agree with you on 2006-2009 being the golden era of OSU football, at least in my lifetime. 2012 felt to me like it had the potential to be the beginning of a return to that golden era; alas, it was not to be.
