Just to break the preseason doom and gloom. Besides the obvious Fiesta Bowl team, which team in the last 20 years holds nearest and dearest to your heart?

Just to break the preseason doom and gloom. Besides the obvious Fiesta Bowl team, which team in the last 20 years holds nearest and dearest to your heart? Easy. 2006 Sun Bowl Team It was a team that really was able to execute exactly what the Coaching staff wanted to do. One of the few OSU teams that I felt comfortable with running out the clock with a small lead. 1998 team after that, just a rag tag bunch of castoffs and guys balling out after living thru Pettibone.

Uhhh I’ll say it.... 2000... is there a question ? Could have beat any team put before us. At end of year. No doubt. Book it.

Again, besides the 2000 team, I would say the 2008 team when Quizz was a freshman. The Rodgers brothers were sure fun to watch.

Gotta be 2006, just the way they finished the season after a rough Riley start.

Instead of two seasons, I will pick two games. One was when we got our revenge against Fresno State and hung 46 on them. The other was the Utah game in Corvallis where we pummeled a physical team into dust plus we KO'ed their RB and QB.

Great topic! Wow so many favorites.
1998- Epic Civil War win, first road win since 94 (at Utah State). Although they didn't get a winning season, this group arguably helped turn the program around. 1999- First winning season since 70. Special year. I was in tears when we beat Cal and clinched winning season. 2006-09 Great years w great players. So many awesome memories.
2012 team. A great season that ended rough.
Besides the 2000 team, I would say that my favorite team was the 99 team. Although it ended poorly, words cannot Express how happy I was that we played in a bowl game for the first time since 64. Before that season, I was worried that I'd never see a Beaver winning season I. My lifetime. Lol That team was super talented. I'll never forget the front page of the Gazette Times titled "Winners"Plus this group would build on the success to a Pac 10 title and Fiesta Bowl Championship.
Speaking of the 99 team. Does anyone know if there is going to be some sort of recognition by OSU of that team this season? It was 20 years ago. I think the team should be honored at halftime of one of the games. They earned it.

1999 was a fun year, breaking the streak was great, and if they have a reunion they merit recognition. But special halftime honors for a 7-5 team that lost the Civil War and the bowl game seems a little bit of a stretch to me.

'98. Guess that's 21 years so it might disqualify my answer.
It was the team that really got both the players and the fans to buy into the idea a bowl game wasn't just a far off dream.
I also moved 3000 miles away for 14 years about 30 days after the Civil War game so I missed out on going to games for quite a while after that.

'98 squad (cheating with 21 years) because of the hope they brought, because of the huge shift in expectations, and because we all saw a fun, competent offense for the first time in decades. of course, double OT win in the civil war is one of the most memorial games in OSU history. Not just the Simonton scamper to win, but a game full of clutch players, in particularly Tim Alexander taking a duck DB for about a 10 yard ride to score late in the game. a guy that would not be stopped.
2000 team, obvious reasons
2006 squad for winning 10 games and going 8-1 after starting off 2-3 and dealing with the total asshats with the Can Riley sign in the stadium, and with some s%#tbird wanna be Canzano at the Barometer repeatedly taking shots at Moore. That whole team rose up, gave a lot of haters a big ol' middle finger. That downhill running play action offense was peak Riley-ball and a thing of beauty. That defense wasn't as great as a few years down the road (2008), but it took no s%#t from anybody. It was a great, likable, fun to watch squad.
All the teams from 2006-2009 were great, and honestly I think the true Golden era of OSU football, to me. 2000 team was amazing and great because of what it achieved and who was on the team... but I really 2006-2009 was a era that we had so much traction and energy. we really were building what everybody wanted.
I am not going to dwell on way it went off the rails, but I will just say that stretch is my favorite stretch of OSU football, by a mile.
2012 team was a good one. putter out at the end, and we have had some debates about the decision making in that Washington game... but 2012 team, I hope, is a more recent example of zeros to heros we can lean to. 3 wins to 9 wins in one season. Heck, if we could do it then we can do it now.

I was staining my deck listening to Daryl call the @baylor game and there was an amazed tone in his voice as the team didnt get weaker in the second half of a close game, instead getting STRONGER as Ken Simonton ran for first down after first down. That '98 team played just about everybody tough, didn't quite get over the 5-6 hump with some narrow losses to big deal teams (that last second loss in Seattle was a good loss if there is such a thing) but you senses the confidence of the young players on that team. They had unfinished business to take care of and you knew it was going to be a good ride.

The Bruins lost the season finale to Miami-Fla and had the game been played when originally scheduled instead of being postponed due to a hurricane, they would have been the best Bruin football team of all time.
We could have had a winning season and their pelt had we crossed the finish line first in that game.

Simonton’s score for the double-overtime victory in the 1998 Civil War is one of my favorite Beaver football moments. It completely redefined Beaver football, shaking an image of ineptitude to adopt a scruffy never-say-die attitude.
I hope Coach Niner can hype the team up for the CW this year. We need another rainy day for duck hunting!
