I'm not trying to guess how this season (or future seasons- some posters are already going there) is going to go based on one game.
I remember a Beaver team that squeaked out a win vs EWU and fans wanted the coordinator's heads. That team won the Firsta bowl.
I remember a Beaver team a few years later that lost by 36 points in a preseason game. There were fans that wanted everyone's head. They ended up with 5 wins, kinda meh. There were still fans calling for everyone's head.
Next season comes, early season 28 point loss. There were fans who were calling for everyone's head. That Beaver team won 10 games.
Next season comes, early 31 point loss. More calls for firings. That team won 9 games.
Next season comes, another early 31 point loss. More calls for firings. That team won 9 games yet again.
That's a LOT of wins after embarrassing early games and a lot of in-season calls for firings by fans.
Oklahoma State beat 3 top 25 teams and lost to number 4 by 1 point last year. They had to replace their QB in the off season, and may have upgraded. We lost by 16, bummer.
I see improvement on both sides of the field already... not enough to win this particular game though. I'm looking forward to see how the rest of the season goes. Hopefully we'll be obviously making progress.

Oklahoma State executed really, really well. They looked like a Top 15-ish team, easily. Their passes were accurate, timing was crisp, no turnovers and very few mistakes of any kind. We're not at that level . . . yet. That doesn't mean that we can't get there.

yeah our Offense can be decent..the problem is the defense is garbage and that isn't just something that has suddenly happened at game 1 it is continuation of being one of top 5 worst defenses in P5!! we know the coach isn't a defensive guy so the buck stops with his defensive staff. Granted that if the staff is starting a obese DL guy that can barely run off the field and has proven he is a liability it must mean they haven't got any players to run their scheme. They have to make some adjustments or we will be very lucky to win 2 games this season IMHO. I predict Smith will want to stay the coach and will find somebody else as quickly as he can.
We've come back to the same kind of discussion we had with Andersen as coach and so many people that were saying it was unfair to be harsh on him as he hadn't had the time needed to get his guys to implement his kind of football!!

The Beav's problem for years has been a general inability to stop the inside running game and zero capacity to stop a good outside running game. Basically, we have little to no running defense and I don't see any improvement in this respect.
Stupid me, but IMO the job just ain't getting done.

Not even a hint of a turnover, only 1 or two miscues. And no the crowd wasn't huge but it was loud and they managed the noise too. Beavs D needed to shake their confidence and that didnt happen. Gotta give OK state credit. They took that game. It wasn't handed to them. Beavs didnt give them short fields until late in the game, they scored on 10 play drives. That's a good team.

They did pretty good on the inside runs but were terrible on the edges, particularly our left edge.
