It leaves too many out in the cold? Supposedly as of July there are 190 million Facebook users in this country, a billion + worldwide. It's not that exclusive of a club. I was thinking especially of the older generation who struggle with technology. As an aside, I wonder how many of those "users" are active. I wonder how many of them are actual identities, not some made up internet persona. How many are businesses that don't really care? Lots of young people are not using FB at all. True, my kids don't use FB at all. Of course the next live stream will probably be an Instagram story.... Of course, you know who owns Instagram Better than it being a TikTok live stream...

Ah, yes, Amazon the great protector of our personal data and credit card numbers BTW, Alexa is always listening too... I mean, thats the whole feature! Siri as well.... At least with OK, Google you can turn off the always listening with a simple setting and she will just listen when you press a button.

You also think that Google is the safeguard of privacy. smh I'm glad that you understand that a device which is intended to listen for your command is actually listening even when you do not call it.

You must have skipped the post a few up from this one where I answered your question about Google vs Apple? I would understand it was of a wall of text, no one wants to read that TL;DR -- Google is marginally more trustworthy than Apple, but not much. If you want to read the full reasoning (which was a direct response to a question from you) it is here (or just scroll up) I am not sure what your personal view of Facebook and privacy is, but many folks on here were complaining about the stream being on FB at all or needing an account to access (which some folks didn't need?), specifically because they are anti facebook because of facebooks current data mining policies or because of previous facebook privacy sins. Message board threads are a group conversation, so I was responding to those sentiments, and you were interested in the data privacy differences between Apple, google and facebook earlier, but if I misconstrued your misgivings then my apologies. So you are ok with streaming games on Facebook, but only if they make the link easier to find, or easier for the older generation? BTW, what is considered older now?

To me that crosses the line from "viewer" to "customer" when in fact i really dont want to be obligated to "buy" what they are selling me, even if the price is only an email address.
As for whether an account is needed, I think the default answer is "yes" when the user environment is one that FB can enforce the requirement on.
Informally from the feedback here it seems the only environments not needing an account are iphone, android or google chrome book. iPhone and Android install an app and google chrome book doesnt store cookies locally? I am sure somebody has more knowledge about that. I only know that in a windows 10 environment on three different laptops the link errored out with "Content Not Available" at this time until i logged into a pre existing facebook account. Newly created facebook accounts werent working.

In the end, I was grateful that the game wasn’t televised. Listening to the radio call alone was less stressful. I may go back to listening to road games on radio until things get back on the right track.
I’m not being hyperbolic, I’m actually serious about this.

Everything I read prior to the game was that if the streamer marked the stream as public then you would not need an account. Of course that depends on the streamer doing something, and I am not sure if they did or not. The whole new vs old account thing is just... weird. Does Facebook have some sort of vetting process to create an account? Lots of sites require you to click a link in an email or get a verification code on your phone to "complete" an account sign up so someone can't create a bot that signs up for millions of accounts. I haven't signed up for an account in a long time. Either way, if it was a conscious choice to disallow new users then that is FB being super dumb, if it was some sort of bug then I am sure it will get worked out (although you should submit a big report). Just curious, are you a customer of the other avenues to watch Beaver games (cable subscriber) or stream other content (Netflix, hulu, etc.)? IOW, if this was streamed on Hulu Live would you have been ok with signing up for an account? Facebook deserves any bad press, or user defections it gets, so I don't blame anyone for refusing to get an account, just trying to understand where the consternation lies.

I LOVE listening to Mike on the radio! Now.... if I could STREAM IT OFF MY PHONE, I would do just that. It is more difficult than you would think to find a freaking pocket sized radio that still has an AM antenna! And even though I live in corvallis once the sun goes down the reception goes to crap, especially if it is a game that has been turfed to 990 that I am trying to listen to (not a problem this year since I haven't listen to a Mariners game in months )

So you are ok with streaming games on Facebook, but only if they make the link easier to find, or easier for the older generation? BTW, what is considered older now? 1. It's funny that you should think that Google is better than Apple, however marginally, when all the articles I have read suggest that Google basically lives off of collecting data through their search engine, their browser, their email service, their chromebooks, and their phones. Realistically, all companies are collecting data pretty much nonstop, so perhaps this doesn't even matter. But in my eyes, you lose credibility. 2. There are people who do not want to go the Facebook route for whatever reason. Some are young--fewer freshmen in college have active FB accounts than in the recent past--some are old who struggle with technology and some just don't care. I know people in all those categories. Broadcasting on FB, therefore, limits viewership and it limits accessibility. 3. There are other questions to consider as well. For example, if the game had been broadcast on TV, I could have recorded it since I wasn't home and then watched at my leisure. Or I could have popped into a bar and watched it on a big screen. Broadcasting on FB sorta limits most of these alternative ways of viewing. 4. My Dad had a FB account before he died. I am not 100% sure that he would have been able to find the game, but I'm sure that he wouldn't have been able to push it to his TV. So he would have sat hunched at his computer desk watching the game instead of relaxing on his sofa. I bet a lot of people watched the game that way. In the end, I hope the Beavs got a pretty penny from old Zuck for the broadcast rights. And we all know that in this day and age, it is only money that matters, so even if you and I disagree about this situation, it's the dollar signs that will paint the direction. As for me, I'll just listen to the broadcast on the radio next time we're on FB.

TuneIn radio app let's you stream on your phone. I'm sure Android has it or an equivalent. There are a handful of radio station websites with ListenLive buttons that will let you stream Mike Parker's call on your computer.

But if FB is being intrusive, that is super tone deaf considering their reputation. I wouldnt mind the account thing so much if it is more transparent and less "shady" (if its not a bug). On the plus side The stream itself was super sharp and didnt freeze even once. I think in that respect it was superior to what i get from cable, at least with my set up.

I'm not even sure what station they are in Portland, as after looking at the OSU Beaver Sports Network it listed both 1190 and 620 but neither one had the game on. I found the TuneIn app but the one I downloaded was only a free trial and then they start charging you, so that's no good for me. I listened on 1240 Corvallis and it wasn't too out of sync with the video so I was happy with that. Seemed like several of the radio network website listings were wrong.

I gave my reasons for trusting google more than apple, even if marginally. And instead of paid puff pieces from USAToday or any other Apple fan's article they have posted it was based on what I personally can do to understand what I am actually using when I turn on an android phone or an iPhone. I can download the android source code and look at every line (and there are LOTS of people who do). If I don't like something I can change it. With apple we only get to know what they tell us. Their code base is locked down, you can root the device and dig around in some of the settings and force it to install some third party packages, but you can't actually dig in the code. But I am an Open Source guy, I like seeing things with my own eyes. If that makes me lose credibility because I trust my own eyes over what Tim Cook wants me to see.... I am OK with that. Undoubtedly true, but the beaver football broadcasts view ship has always been limited. Do you honestly think that more people have access to the Pac-12 network than Facebook? Posted this earlier, B ut the full game can be watched to your hearts delight here. Facebook account required, but it is free, and accessible, and isn't taking space on your DVR, and if you set the DVR up wrong you aren't cursing yourself Talk about accessibility. I was also not home, and I didn't have to pop into a bar, or find a place with public wifi, the game was literally in my pocket! I was at an outdoor concert, then waiting for a parking lot to empty and then at a strangers house, and all the while I didn't miss a play (except while driving, don't watch football while driving ) 4. It's a good thing he has a son that would have hooked him up Not trying to be trite, but technology and innovation will march on regardless of the folks it leaves behind. My dad worked in technology his whole life, and has always kept up, but he retired and now things like texting seem to flummox him. So I get it. On the other hand I have several friends from college who have to ask their (septuagenarian) parents for help with their phones and online accounts. I don't think it is necessarily a question of age or intelligence, but intention. I am a tech nerd, so I am ENTHUSED to figure out all the features on my phone, or facebook, or cryptocurrency or whatever. My wife tolerates technology, and would rather go on a hike Believe you me, she is WAY SMARTER than I am In the end, I hope the Beavs got a pretty penny from old Zuck for the broadcast rights. And we all know that in this day and age, it is only money that matters, so even if you and I disagree about this situation, it's the dollar signs that will paint the direction. As for me, I'll just listen to the broadcast on the radio next time we're on FB. Beavers didn't get a penny from Facebook, since it is the MWC that has the foresight and good leadership to try FB Live streaming not the Pac-12

TuneIn works for Beaseball games (I guess they don't make much money?), but at least the last time I tried (and maybe it has changed) to listen to a football game it was "blacked out". If Tune in now lets you get football games then that is great news! Thanks for the update I will try it for the next game (I like to listen even when in the stands)
