Look, I’m as down as anyone that we didn’t win but that doesn’t mean I’m calling it quits. Were there coaching errors, obviously, but I’m guessing JS is desperate for a win and he’s gonna do anything to try and get it. That includes doing dumb s%#t like the fake punt.
So yeah we didn’t win and there were some real head scratching moments but the football we are playing now looks a whole lot better than the football we played two years ago even if it hasn’t yet translated to wins and losses.
If I was actually placing blame I would say Luton was god awful inaccurate and if he even hit 1/2 of his second half passes we would have scored once, which was all we needed.
If I could take one specific positive, that tackle by Whitttley at the end of the game was the most aggressive defense play we’ve had since 2015

On a bright note that's the fewest points allowed since the 2nd game last year.
On another observation if Jefferson was tripping or fumbling at every carry he wouldn't be on the field. Luton was atrocious in the 2nd half shooting blanks get him off the field

So how many games does Lavaka get suspended? I will be disappointed if he doesn't get at least a few. Need to have discipline and create a culture. For people who don't think he should be suspended, many Beaver fans were upset that Blount wasn't suspended an entire season and came back for the Civil War game. Only difference I can see is that Lavaka through multiple punches at a guy with his helmet on and this game was on facebook and not national TV.

If smith doesn't show some discipline there is no reason to expect the players to show it

Pushing and shoving happens in most every game. Bottom line is he lost his cool. Now the question is will he be held accountable.

And he was pushed from behind by two guys. After shoulder blocking the guy who eventually pushed him. You missed that part.

What had us upset with the Blount situation was that he was suspended for the season, then unsuspended and deployed when their Rose Bowl aspirations were circling the drain at halftime. And there is a very big difference between popping a guy in the face mask who just shoved you in the back, and sucker punching a guy without a helmet while his coach is holding him and he's not even looking at you because he threw your pre-game trash talk in the media back in your face.

Blount already had two strikes on him when he punched Hout, from various and sundry issues previously in his uo career. The comparison is in no way similar.

Not excusing it, but all of our Hawaii players have had issues when going back to play on the rock - Jeremy Perry was the victim of some dirty stuff in the pile, wound up costing him the Sun Bowl. Wouldn't be surprising if Gus was wound a little tight by the end of the game.

Too bad Gus didn't rip the guy's helmet off and beat him with it! Hawaii punk deserved it! Go Beavs!!

Luton was atrocious in the 2nd half shooting blanks get him off the field Fewest points allowed since Southern Utah 366 days ago. Fewest points against an FBS team since Stanford in 2017, 19 games ago. Fewest points against a road opponent since Stanford in 2016, 30 games ago. Fewest points allowed to a non-conference FBS opponent since Minnesota in the opener in 2016. 31 points is great, but the defense was lucky to not give up more with three missed field goals. Only five teams allowed more than 31 points to Hawai'i in regulation in 2018, and one was FCS Duquesne. The four FBS teams went a combined a combined 12-38 (.240) in 2018. One team allowed exactly 31 points in regulation to Hawai'i in 2018 and that was 1-11 San Jose State.

Only difference I can see is that Lavaka through multiple punches at a guy with his helmet on and this game was on facebook and not national TV. There are quite a few important differences, but yes throwing a SUCKER punch at a guy with no helmet and landing it squarely is deadly serious compared to taking swings at a guy with a helmet. Blount's punch was clearly a sucker punch (meaning the recipient had now warning or means to protect himself from such a powerful blow) and the punch was preceded by no physical provocation. It also happened long enough after the game for both sidelines to be on the field with, most with helmets off. He threw the sucker punch, probably with some verbal provocation, but it didn't end there. Don't forget he then went on an extended tirade including pushing/taking a swing at own teammates and engaging with fans. He had to be restrained and escorted off the field. It went well beyond a momentary emotional impulsive outburst it was an extended tirade. The Lavaka incident was immediate and directly following the last play with all players still geared up and on the field of play. There was physical provocation and obviously some verbal provocation as well. He acted impulsively in the moment however he quickly came to his senses, stopped, and walked off the field without any further incident or restraint. I don't see any real parallels. USCkneegate and the cheapshots another Wilcox coached D delivered up at UW on Marcus Wheaton strike me as far more serious. Those were delivered with some premeditation, caused actual physical harm, and left players careers in jeopardy. What were the consequences to the offenders?
