I know the good feelings will only last until the next loss, but post-win press conferences are fun. What I liked most about this post-game press conference is the number of times that the players mentioned that a particular play or performance was good because they worked on that thing in practice (even including Champ going up for the contested ball is something they work on "every day"). I understand that they should be working on everything in practice but the fact that the players recognize the preparation as the key to their success is the most encouraging thing. It is that confidence in the preparation that allows a team to get and keep a lead.
I especially liked when Jalen said, about defending the Cal Poly triple-option (to paraphrase), "The coaches basically gave us the answers to the test during practice, so we were able to ace the test".

This game showed a solid step up in positional discipline that will pay dividends during the remainder of the season. Defending the option is a handful even for what are usually solid D's. We saw our best ever rush D get shredded by Oregon in the last decade. Georgia Southern did a number on our D as well.
That did not happen this Saturday. Thank heavens Stanford is a traditional power offense. We might be able to get off the field on 3rd down for a change!

Despite what some think, I believe we have a competent coaching staff. That will become far more obvious as our talent level increases.
Casey Stengel, Joe Torre, Bill Belechick and many other had bad records when they inherited bad teams with bad talent. When they got talent, they mysteriously became better managers/coaches.

Us fans got frustrated by Hawaii staying on the field and going 3 for 3 on 4th down, but even with those combined it was still 5 for 17, which is darn good. BTW, Hawaii went 7 for 16 on 3rd down against UW and also went 3 for 3 on 4th down against the Dawgs.

Watch out....Stanford can run the ball. We'll see if this team has really progressed defensively or not. If not, it'll be just another loss.

The Beavs might not be ready to jump into the middle tier of the Pac12 quite yet, but... 2019 Stanford is not the Stanford most are use to seeing the past 5+ seasons. - good QB but not a dual threat; - basically a new offensive and defensive lines with no sure fire NFL talent; - no fast, elusive RBs; - no speedster/NFL type WR; - very average back 7; Let's see of we can figure out how to counter the 6'7" "rebounder" in the red zone. And limit those visits. OSU should be healthy and hungry. Furd more than likely comes to Reser 1-3/0-2 and could be giving up 45 or more points 3 straight games! Unless Stanford makes a remarkable turnaround in a week, OSU can win this game. See it 50/50 if they lose... get handled again 60/40 Beavs. Would love to see a certain coach walk out of Reser 1-4/0-3.
