Uncle is Dennis Erickson. Christian coached at OSU in 2000-01 and has made a bunch of stops, most of them with Erickson, I believe.

Anybody know if Cookus is remaining with the program or does this signal that he's moving on?

Anybody know if Cookus is remaining with the program or does this signal that he's moving on? Jake Cookus no longer appears on osubeavers, but it was my understanding that Cookus is still under contract. Your guess is as good as mine.

Hopefully he does better this coming year than last year. It seems a little odd that New Mexico had the steep drop off in special teams this past season. Christian has worked a lot with Bray before, so I will trust Bray. Maybe Christian and Bronco didn’t see eye-to-eye on ST. I just can’t see anybody having a conflict with Mendenhall. Lmao.

Our special teams seemed pretty good the last couple years so I wonder why Cookus wasn't retained?

Gotta trust Bray here i suppose ...has be some good reason. Maybe it’s the silly fake field goal right before the half in Tucson? Seriously, I know that it would be more than just one play that resulted in the lack of desire to continue with Jake, and I’m sure that it was Lindgren/Smith’s decision to make that ridiculous call anyway. This is likely more to do with Bray’s connection with Christian, Erickson, and maybe even his dad from when they coached together, than necessarily anything to do with Cookus. No need to speculate about reasons here, IMO. Coaches do this type of thing when they take over a program. If Trent wants Christian doing this, then so do I.

There was something earlier that Cookus would be retained more in the advisorial staff. Not sure what that looks like, of if he's free to look elsewhere for a coordinator job in the meantime.

There's more to it on Cookus, time to move in another direction.
