How does Mitchell give us a better chance to win then Collins ? Why was Collins benched after rushing for 50 yards and going 4-7 passing ? Why are we STILL holding auditions at QB 7 games into the season? Why have we abandoned the spread offense ? What exactly are we running on offense ? When an offense struggles like ours does why have we gone away from possession type throws?
We seem hell bent to stretch the field vertically. Your QB and your offense get in a rhythm when you move the chains consistently. Every time we get behind the chains with this offense we go 3 and out... We have no identity on offense. Kudos to Ryan Nall for his great effort to try and pull this one out. I thought I was watching an Andros team with Earthquake Enyart out there... Good work young man..
I don't expect miracles, but I have a hard time trying to see where this team is headed currently.

"I don't expect miracles, but I have a hard time trying to see where this team is headed currently."
. I kind of wonder those same things Bert. We bring in an offensive "genius" to consult, and one week later we have a totally different offense, a different QB and what seems to be a different philosophy -- and it's mid-year! So much like the effort on defense seemed to decline the last couple weeks prior to this game, now our offense can only score 13 points on Colorado.
In fairness to Mitchell who wasn't a perfect passing machine by any stretch of the imagination, he sure didn't get a lot of help from receivers who seemed incapable of catching an awful lot of balls in their hands.

Most disappointed that we don't seem to have a QB that can hit ANY kind of pass with consistency, not even HS QB accurate most of the time. No team will get through this league with QB play like that and receivers that can't catch, Sean M. where are you when we need ya!! Offensive game plan and execution for the most part is bad to horrible, I didn't expect a .500 season but I don't think many of us expected an 0-fer the PAC12 either. Very disappointing that we are again back in the Avezzano days, how long will it take to get back to .500, don't know, but it's a good bet it won't be for a few years. The serious (apparently) injuries last night will really put a shadow on this team the rest of the year I'm afraid. Not going to be a pretty sight at Utah either, payback will be a real bitch to stomach, maybe women and kids shouldn't watch. I'll be watching but it's gonna be a LONG rest of the season, sadly. Hard to watch how far the program has fallen, depressing.

Hard to watch how far the program has fallen, depressing. Let's not forget who was responsible for taking us down there, at least he's nebraskas problem now. Andersen has only brought in a handful of players so far. Hopefully the coaches are not in shock of where they are too and have some buyers remorse.

I'll take OSU's position any day of the week. Hi OA!

There are a lot of questions, but I guess I don't have the worry that other posters have.
I have seen this season as, essentially, a tryout for QBs, LBs, and the secondary. Unfortunately, the question at QB does not seem to be resolved and the secondary and LBs seem to have had too many losses (injuries, dismissals) to get a good read.
Another question for me is the DL and the 3-4 scheme. Frankly, I think our DLs in general are too small to run a solid 3-4. Most of the solid 3-4 defenses that I have seen have been manned at the DE position by men who would be playing DT in a 4-3 scheme. I don't think we have that kind of personnel.
But there seem to be some good omens (along with admitted question marks) for the future:
1. QB--With good coaching, the freshmen will get better. Garretson by most accounts seems to be the best QB on the roster for this system and Moran looks like a good recruit if we can hold on to him. Mitchell made some good throws last night that should have been caught. Considering that he has had the least reps of our 3 QBs this year, by far, he has had the best showing.
2. RB--Nall looks like the real deal, a Toby Gearhardt type of back. Most posters have commented on his obvious physical size and strength, but I think his agility, especially for someone that big, ought to be mentioned. I really, really don't like to call out players on the internet, but I think Nall's performance last night, with essentially the same OL that has been around for nearly 2 years (minus Harlow for much of last night's game), showed that our other RBs may not have the talent to be anything more than decent backups in the Pac 12. If we can find some complimentary RBs for Nall for the next 3 years, we could have something special in the offensive backfield.
3. WR--Villamin can be solid, and Guyton seems to be growing into his own. Jarmon has had his moments. I think there is potential to have an excellent WR team over the 2-3 years.
4. OL--Most will return next year, including, I'm willing to bet, Seumalo. Andrews will return. The OL will have one more year to learn the scheme. If the BYU transfer pans out, we could have a solid OL next year.
5. DL--This position makes me very nervous. Do we have the horses next year to compete? Are there JC transfers coming in? I think in a 3-4 scheme, the DLs must be good. I have seen too many passing downs where our DL got no pressure on the QB. This, to me, is the biggest question mark on the roster.
6. LB--We need better tackling, period. A lot of new faces at he position this year; hopefully a year of experience will get us there next year.
7. Secondary--The coaches are recruiting a lot of guys in this area. I don't think it is a coincidence. We have had some rough games back there this year.
8. Special teams -- Garrett Owens is solid. Porebski? Not sold yet. The return games still needs work.
If you look at Andersen's coaching past, he often has a rough year or two to start as he works in his system and the beavers are, unfortunately, right on that schedule this year. Still, we've seen some good moments this year and I see a lot of potential on the team. A few tweaks here and there backed up by some solid recruiting, and I think Andersen can get us there.

hopefully recruiting ends up landing some DL prospects as you noted a tough position to get quality players and hopefully some of the OL we have in the wings turn out to be avg or above (or maybe the coaches will shake some of them loose before next year). Hopefully Harlow didn't do anything too serious that can't heal for future.

OSU my hat is off to you Beavers Bastards Sons a bitches to0 This was a Poor performance, but not poor effort. I am troubled by Our Pass Catchers not getting the Ball First before turning. I wish they could catch Low Balls as well. I see Hope for the future, but sideline issues worry me a bit.

I was kind of puzzled and disappointed that they didn't have Mitchell keep the ball on those zone reads a couple times, particularly after they ran it about 4 times IN A ROW. The D was so keyed on stopping Nall I thought if Mitchell would of kept it once or twice he could of picked up a big chunk of yardage. I liked Mitchell at QB. I like Seth too but he is clearly quite limited in his passing ability.
Go Beavs!

I hated the Spread offense for years. I studied it and am coming around on it. I kept telling anyone who would listen that just because we make the switch, don't expect it to work out for us. At least not until the personnel changes. We don't have spread talent. The Spread de-emphasizes O-line play, which indirectly puts way more emphasis on skill position talent. Last time I checked, we aren't exactly a recruiting super-power in either category (lineman or skill positions). I'd love for some recruitnik to educate us on which area we have traditionally recruit better?
There was a lot of talk going into this season that our WR's were our deepest position group. Sure hasn't played out that way. Sadly, a bad way to boost up a young QB unit. #6 has been the biggest disappointment of the season. Did he forget how to catch?
To me it's very apparent why not a single Pac-12 team offered #4 as a QB. Yes, he is exciting to watch. But he's too raw. Even when he completes passes they aren't placed well to allow the WR's to run after catch, etc. He's a 1 read QB, and then he's running. That never works well at any level. Even, if it's fun to watch.
It's apparent to me the new staff took a flier on #4 working out. They had to do something. His complete lack of downfield throwing is his own demise. He got 1/2 a season to perform. Coaches are ready to see something else.
#14 can read the field. He was throwing the ball well putting it in proper spots. WR's did not help him out at all. Yes, he looked bad once we completely abandoned the run game. When we still had balance, he was my guy. I want to see #14 and #34 get a whole game to show their talents.
If you looked at our Yards per carry when when #4 took the snaps in the 3rd Q it was 3.0 yards per carry. In the 4th Q with #14 taking the snaps it was 6.1 yards per carry. The threat of the downfield passing game does a lot for a run game - isn't there with #4 QB-ing.
Just my opinion.
Glad this board is up and running. P-O pretty much contracted an incurable disease and died a slow death. I was on P-O for a long time. I do find it ironic... I can remember how P-O viewed Crowton when he was with the Ducks (very negatively). How can anyone change their opinion now that he is a Beaver consultant?

While I doubt he's seen many reps, Mitchell certainly didn't blow me away with his footwork and accuracy, especially on the slant routes. However, I could see the potential for a ton of improvement between his game 1 and game 2. That said, I don't see any way that Andersen doesn't look like an idiot now for running off Del Rio, if he's not going to write off the season and work on implementing his system regardless what we have to work with at QB.

Where did you get the idea Andersen "ran off Del Rio?" The story that came through the media was that following a Saturday scrimmage, in which Del Rio had taken first team reps, he sat down and had a conversation with Andersen, after which Del Rio announced he was transferring. I believe the meeting was at Del Rio's request. I assumed that he left as a result of what Andersen told him. So what would Andersen have told him that would cause him to transfer? 1. That he couldn't play for Andersen? Makes no sense because up to that conversation he had been getting more first team reps than anyone else. If Andersen truly felt that, doubt he would have kept it secret for so long and wasted practice time. 2. That the QB would need to be able to run in his system. This should not have been news to Del Rio unless he failed to watch the introductory press conference. But if this was it, this sounds to me like Andersen just being honest. Do you think its a good practice for coaches to be dishonest, or evasive, so that a kid who will leave if he gets an honest answer will stay?

IMO I think they should stick with Collins. Yes his accuracy is inconsistent, but he has a good arm and I think with experience he will improve as a passer and lets face it his legs are the only thing that come close to worrying an opposing Defensive Coordinator.

I walk with Seth. Huge upside with him. Great athlete, fiery competitor. He has an arm, I've seen him throw a nice deep ball. We all have. He just needs more practice in the system and more work on the short and intermediate throws. It's his job for the next 4 years if he wants it; keeps progressing this year and really puts in some hard work in the off season. They sky's the limit.
