great to get these REAL 3* type players. kids with multiple power 5 offers.

This is a great get from an athlete perspective as well as an in state pipeline perspective. If we can win the battle for Shear or Forsyth ( as I hear it, we're not REALLY in the running for Forsyth, I'm guessing he ends up at SC) it'd be an improvement over last year. It's not often that the in state crop is as deep as it has been the past two years, so it's tough that it coincides with our 20 year low.

I was just going to post this. I don't really like the sound of his comments...and that's all I'll say about that.
Right? I can't be mad at the kid....I mean, good for him for getting all the information before making what is undoubtedly the biggest decision of his life thus far, but the tone of that column is basically "my commitment basically meant nothing - Oregon State was just my favorite at the time. By the way, have I told you how much attention the Duck coaches have been paying to me lately? It's awesome!"

Actually, I'm impressed by his approach: new information has presented itself, so he's evaluating his decision based on that new information. I think he stays with OSU.

I get that a kid wants a bunch of offers, but if I was David Morris, I would question why OSU, WSU, CAL and several others thought highly enough of him to offer months ago, and Oregon only finally got off their butts and offered. Also, is it just me, or do things suddenly not seem so great over in Duck land? I can't put my finger on it... but it just seems, i dunno. like the magic is leaving.

Never a good sign, waffling after only one week is alarming , or ought to be, and if was betting $$, I would bet against him being a Beav. Now his HS coach will be a long lost uck too, I think this will determine who he goes with, I'd say it's 80-20 he an uck, barffffff. Friggin poachers!!!!

I only care about those who actually become Beavers... could care less about the rest. Until they sign it all just a giant farce/gamesmanship...

It says pretty clearly in the article that the Ducks coaches told him ahead of time that they were waiting to evaluate him in person at this camp before offering. There's plenty of reasons to hate the Ducks, when they offer a kid isn't one of them in my book.

Well, from what I understand coming from down south is that the sky is falling in terms of recruiting. They like to think of themselves as a national power recruiting-wise and they are currently way behind, came in 2nd/3rd/4th a lot this spring. Looks to be a lot of wasted time and energy on kids who ultimately picked the Alabama's of the world. Some of the things that kids pay attention to (right or wrong) are now commonplace - multiple uni combos, facilities, so the advantage there is waning. Helfrich seems like a nice enough guy, but has the charisma of a cardboard box - and I think that's going to hurt in some ways. Plus, if I'm recruiting against the ducks, I call them a gimmick offense and ask how many of their skill guys have been successful in the NFL. Now if I'm recruiting against the Beavs.. well there's plenty of ammo at the moment, but GA is going to change that. Right now his trump card is going to be playing time.

There's plenty of reasons to hate the Ducks, when they offer a kid isn't one of them in my book. There is always a reason to hate the ducks. but, I am not hating on them for going after a recruit of ours. Hell we don't "own" anybody... I am stating it is telling we came in early and showed interest. It says a lot that our coaches (and WSU and CALs) bothered to go to his games and see him in person. He played every one of his football games within a 100 mile drive from the university of Oregon. We didn't need to give him some "well... lets see how you measure up in camp" type thing. It isn't like the Sherwood Bowmen are some under the radar program in Oregon, they are year in and year out among the top 5A teams. they really couldn't get a guy out there to watch him play? they had to wait to evaluate him in person in a camp? Hell Michigan even sent coaches out to meet him back in April...

Yeah, but Michigan didn't offer, did they? We don't really know how much interest Oregon was showing him, other than we know he was in contact with them for a while. Point is, Oregon was probably recruiting higher profile recruits and may not have necessarily had a spot to offer him. Once they got to get more time with the kid, they decided "yes, we do want this kid" and offered him a scholarship.
OSU (and WSU and maybe to a lesser extent, Cal) don't have that luxury right now of having dozens and dozens of top tier recruits interested in playing for them. When they've got a good player in the region that they can maybe get to before the rest of the nation catches on, they almost have to offer early and hope the kid continues to develop. If they don't, they get lost behind the Michigans, Oregons, USCs of the world when they offer around the same time.
