So what are the odds a 6'4 240lb 8th grader is still going to be a QB in 4 years?

Remember that kid that Kiffin offered a scholarship to back in 2010 or whatever to play QB? He's a Wide receiver at West Virginia now. This means absolutely nothing other than a headline. I understand why teams do things like this, but I'm not a fan of the practice.

National exposure? Sure. But then a lot of things have national exposure. It needs to be good exposure. I'm not sure I (personally) feel offering middle schoolers is what I want OSU to be known for...I'm sure people will disagree, I'm just saying that for some people it might not be the best exposure. It would be interesting to see how many 8th/9th graders who have ever been offered have ended up at the school that offered them.

I think "national exposure" might be overstating it a little bit. I wish I could find some statistics based on how many middle schoolers sign with the first school to offer them.....or how many schools honor offers to middle schoolers. I just don't like the idea of making a decision on a 13 year old for the school or the kid.

He's gotta put on a few pounds to catch up with Jared Lorenzen.

We have 4 years to rescind the offer just like he has 4 years to change his mind.

I just read a story about a high school freshman who spent 30 minutes a day emailing coaches and programs, and said colleges wanted weekly phone calls to get updates. She played soccer. If you think colleges aren't going hard after these younger kids, you're kidding yourself. Being first only resonates if you maintain that presence.

I wonder what would happen if this superstar freshman DIDN'T email them back each day? Would they all pull their offers?
I'm sorry but Chelsea didn't promptly return my email, nor did she attach the requested pdf. MOVING ON.
Would she go unrecruited and end up working at Starbucks? So many burning questions. I hope she's okay.

They probably said let us know how you're doing and we'll keep in touch.... back in the day that used to mean every once in a while. Now that we have twitter and people are doing 128 character updates every time they take a dump, eat, stand up, change tv channels or have a new thought, I could see a kid thinking the coaches want weekly updates for the next 4 years.
