Tibesar is easily the No. 1 liability on this team. His chronically ineffective defensive sets practically assure opposition success on 3rd and long situations. Even worse, he is the absolute most inept in-game coach I've ever observed.....no on-the-fly changes in strategy, essentially no half-time adjustments. The result is that our defense inevitably performs worse than the quality of the players Tibesar is coaching.
'Hard to understand why JS has not done much, if anything, to help correct this soft spot in his program.

Chance's footwork. Ball floats. He needs to find Jordan Palmer ASAP. Carson's brother, QBed at UTEP. He helped fix Josh Allen's mechanical problems.

My expectations were to show improvement and make a bowl game.... I thought 7-4 would be our ceiling. We are currently exceeding my expectations from my preseason prognosticating... My question is, should JS get more involved in the offensive play calling? If the TV guys are right... Langsdorf Lindgren does all of the play calling now... but Coach Smith is also pretty darn good at it. I know it doesn't fix the defense but until that is fixed outscoring the other team is a viable strategy to a win.

Everyone saw what happened to us at wazzu. Not a lot of confidence in Tibesar right now. Let's see how the team responds after the bye. It's the million dollar question right now for sure....can our defensive coaches scheme these guys into success? Or do we not have the talent anyway? We would be looking a lot better with a more athletic D line. Getting Hodgins back would be nice. The issue that I have with Tibs is that he gets out-chessmatched. He came in with a great game plan. But Wazzu changed it up at halftime a couple of times, and Tibs always seemed a step or two behind. The Cougars are not very talented but are very well coached. Utah is more talented and also very well coached, which is a concern. Hodgins would be a big add for the defense. His addition would help everyone else to not have to work so hard. Plus, it would help cover Tibs' general lack of ability to change it up on the fly. I still hate the 3-4. In theory, the 3-4 should work its best against a spread team like Wazzu and yet the Cougars' 4-3 made the Beavers' 3-4 look like hot garbage. But we've seen the Beavs make adjustments on both sides of the ball in past games.

It just seemed to me like Wazzu was just a step or two ahead. I saw Wazzu make moves on defense that stymied Oregon State. And I never saw that from the Beaver defense.

Sometimes the momentum shifts and it doesn't matter what you do.....the crowd was loud...that gave juice to the coogs I'm not so much sure their defense made moves to stymie us as much as their momentum overwhelmed us. Nolan looked very rattled at the end. de Laura played with a ton of confidence too....sure, the D scheme helped him, but he executed at a high level as well. I'm ready to move on from this one and hope our players and coaches can learn, adjust, keep getting better. The D line will be an issue all season unless we magically get some dudes who can win in the trenches.
