Walton made multiple mentions of how nice it is. I recall back when the University subsidized the Hilton Garden Inn project adjacent to campus so there would at least be one decent hotel in town (sorry Nendels and Salbasgeon). The photos look pretty nice. www.marriott.com/hotels/hotel-photos/eugco-courtyard-corvallis/

The Hilton Garden wasn't exactly subsidized by OSU. They just gave them a deal on the ground lease. The ownership group owns the building while the University owns the land. The same ownership group owns the Courtyard, the Hilton Garden Inn and the Holiday Inn Express. Although, the Hilton Garden Inn was in foreclosure during the pandemic, so I'm not certain if they still own it.

It may not have been "subsidized", but I know that some of the local hotels/motels fought against the "deal" OSU gave to Hilton Garden as being unfair to their businesses.

They were fighting against it because it is "on campus" and they didn't feel that it was fair. It was a location thing.

They fought against it because it was going to be nicer than s%#tholes like the old Ramada, and convenient to the university, and might take away some of their business and force them to spend money to upgrade their properties. The Hilton Garden was one of the best things to happen to Corvallis. Kind of like Corvallis slumlords fought against the various newer apartment complexes and townhouses that gave students livable alternatives to some of the ratholes they were forced to rent in the no-growther era when nothing new was being built .

The Ramada (FKA Nendel's) was gone by then. The owners of the Comfort Suites (FKA Salbasgeon) and the Best Western were the ones fighting it. It was definitely needed, because they were was a huge shortage of rooms in Corvallis. The Courtyard has been struggling because I think they overdid it with the number of rooms and the cost to build that downtown with a parking garage was steep (close to $30 million) There is a new one that is a combo extended stay hotel/apartments that is being built shortly behind Shari's on 9th next to the crap hole Days Inn.

From what I understand the Marriott was really making headway with corporate/university/Pac-12 travel until Covid hit. I suspect business will rebound again once it is finally over, or at least an endemic instead of a pandemic.

I've already made my reservations at both the HGI and Courtyard for Coogs (10/15) and Buffs (10/22).
HGI location cannot be beat and quality-wise it is just like any other HGI property I've been in.
Courtyard looks nice and would be cool to be downtown with all the restaurants/bars.

The photos look pretty nice. www.marriott.com/hotels/hotel-photos/eugco-courtyard-corvallis/I have stayed there and it is very nice. The rooms are what you would expect from a Marriott but there are some really nice roof top patio areas with fire pits that overlook the river. I agree with a previous post about the food. We had breakfast there but it was a very limited menu and over priced. It was good but you can easily find something better downtown with more variety and better value. It's nice having underground parking, it just feels more secure. We didn't check out any other amenities. Just bought some over priced soft drinks from the "store". If price isn't an option, definitely better than pretty much anything else in Corvallis. Marriott, Hilton Garden Inn and Holiday Inn Express (distant 3rd) . . . then there is a dramatic drop off in hotel quality.

I have not been inside any of the rooms, so I can't speak for their quality/amenities. But all three wings of the old Town House (now the University Inn, I think) on 4th Street have been renovated. Very convenient to campus/Reser. And Tommy's has one of the better breakfasts in town.

I have a supplier in town this week and we recommended the downtown Marrriott but they ended up staying at the Hilton near campus due to price.
