With all due respect Hal was no where in sight when much of Jack's take on retiring and succession took place. Nor was Hal there in coach's meetings. But, again... it doesn't matter who you believe. It's basically trivia. PS- you'd be in a world of hurt if you believed every "tale" Jack spun. LOL Still and all, I can either believe direct testimony from the individual in question or hearsay from some guy on an internet message board. Neither option is perfect or error free. But from a historical standpoint I'll go with the former over the latter 99 times out of 100. I am just confused why Rainey was pushing so hard, if everyone else was board. The way that I have always heard it, it was Rainey that found Casey and got him excited about the gig and then sold Casey to Baughman. I don't know why any of that would be necessary if Jack Riley was 100% on board from the get-go, unless there was another fly in the ointment. I have just always heard that Riley wanted Kemp, and Casey knew that fact before Rainey got involved. Riley definitely came around on Casey, but I do not know where that came in the process. As for Cowan, Cowan was the media director at the time. And judging from the media guides at the time....................... I don't know why the media director would be involved with the process at all.

I don’t know who made the final decision, but I believe that Mike Corwin actually offered Casey the job.

I don’t know who made the final decision, but I believe that Mike Corwin actually offered Casey the job. That would absolutely make sense, since Corwin was the sport supervisor at the time and had far more of a baseball background than Baughman.
