Grew up in Albany. Worked at KOIN from 1968-2012. A calm and classy presence in local TV news when it was a lot bigger and more influential than it is today. Not to say everything was perfect in that era but that's a topic for another time. Mike was a highly respected voice in the community. May he RIP.

Thanks for that EE! Always loved him. Seemed like a class act. Yeah agreed...back when local news actually did news..Donahue. Shirley Hancock, Ed Whelan, Dr John on the weather. I seem to recall that back in the day, the Blazers (I think) used to broadcast games on a delayed basis for some bizarre reason ( I think CBS was the broadcaster). Ed would warn folks that they were gonna show the score, but not say anything...so 'look away' if you don't want to know....Then MD flubbed up at the closing sign off and mention the score! I think he did it at least twice....All too human!
