Wtf is all this HS sports talk...move this Glove! I dont follow Corvallis High sports these days but Chris McGowan doesn't deserve to be s%#t on ever. I'd be stoked if he wants to come coach my son's team in Reno. It's not like he could have recruited good football players to move to Corvallis. CHS had great coaches in the past but they also had ridiculously phenomenal athletes and talent to work with. That's kind of how the ebb and flow of HS sports works in small towns. It is the ebb and flow of high school sports. I remember CHS being a threat a lot of years in the 70's and at least first half of the 80's. I went to Roseburg and I don't think they have been a top 10 team for close to 20 years. From 1978 to about 1998, I think the football team was in state title game 8 or 10 years. But I know Thurman Bell put a huge emphasis on the youth program when he arrived. I imagine Sheldon, West Linn and others do that now.

Youth football was a thing of the early-mid 2000's... now it is all about "recruiting". Which we know doesn't happen!

Kids are gone, but the school is still around the corner. It's been a rough few years for a variety of reasons. Pardon the knee jerk - can't tell who's quote whom some days.
Hope the new year is a grand one for all!

Hufanga lived in Albany and attended CV. Both teams are awful. CV went down the toilet after Sanders stepped down. CV only had 23 players on their whole team this year and CHS was in the low 40's. Both schools have been soccer schools for the last several years and less and less kids are playing football in Corvallis.

Both schools have been soccer schools for the last several years and less and less kids are playing football in Corvallis. And, to top it off the state of 5A football is terrible due to such teams and their decline. Watching even the supposedly good teams was difficult. I've been around long enough that memory tends to "glorify" history, but man... there is some bad football being played. I would hate to see what the top 3A/4A teams before the 6A alignment would do to teams today. The OSAA is truly a joke when it sponsors (32) teams in a upper and lower 6A brackets. There were about (8) teams worthy of being in the playoffs. In 5A it might have been (4)! What use to be "earned" is now seen as "deserved" no matter how outlandish the mismatch and poor play. Anyway a off topic "ish" rant on a topic with no real solution.
