Long time FSU baseball coach. Took the Seminoles to 40 straight regionals. Over 2000 wins. A good old southern boy, great with the media and great for college baseball. RIP # 11

40 straight regionals, and a pretty terrible record at Omaha.
I always figured they got overrated, hosted super-regionals that they didn't deserve, and ended up overmatched in the final 8. Well, I'm sure they deserved SOME of their super regional hosts.

Yeah... well if CWS titles are the only measurement for some there are a ton of overrated coaches out there!! I guess MC best hurry up... I mean at least overrated FSU was in the CWS Martin's first year and (3) in his first 8 seasons.
You have to love the 20/20 hindsight tags like "undeserving" or "overrated" for a man who has 2000+ wins... 15 various COY awards... not only 40 straight trip to the NCAAs, but 40 winning seasons, overall and conference. In 40 seasons... all with 41 or more wins 18 with 50+ wins, 2 with 60+ wins, and 17 CWS trips with (2) back to back to back ('94,'95,'96) and ('98,'99,'00), and (2) back to back ('86,'87) and ('91,'92).
Never understood the need to disparage great accomplishments?!

You don't deserve congratulations for winning in system rigged to get you to Omaha. 17 trips, but only made the Championship Game once, a 10-2 loss.........to Arizona. Fawning over the guy, because he coached at the same spot for 40 years seems unnecessary. Number of years is a dumb way to measure "greatness." Longevity is not greatness. RIP. |
