Rono may have had a drinking problem in parts of his life. In the late 80's, I heard stories of him being 50 or so pounds overweight showing up at a local 10k on a Sunday morning, smelling like beer, and then running it in 31 or 32 minutes. He was an incredible talent. I believe all those world records were set in a seven week time period.
